Hi guys. Any advice is would be welcome.

I’m trying to decide between the Silverback Spectra 2011, Silverback Shift 1 (2011) and the Scott Scale 40 (2011).

I tried to get a price on the Silverback Shift 1 (2011) but not even the rep for Silverback can give me a price or a date on the arrival of the Shift 1.

I found these prices on this topic.

Spectra R11200.00

Shift 1 R18000.00

Shift 2 R13500.00

How much can you get the Scott Scale 40 (2011) for? I am thinking about getting a new bike at the end of the year and been looking at the spectra,Ventura(R8,200)and the Shift 2.Covie and a few others say its the best value for money so that’s why I have been mainly only looking at SB.

Any other suggestions?

What is the price of the Scott? Do you have a link or something with the specs of the 2011 Scott? I tried to find something online but couldn't get anything...

I'm also looking at the Spectra at the moment. Think it's really good value for money at R11k. It will be a huge upgrade from my 2009 Alpine!

The spec of the Shift 1 is quite bit better than the Spectra, and the frame should be lighter and stiffer than the Spectra's. I don't think it will be under R15k or R16k though..

So it comes down to how much you want to spend?

I was quoted on the Scott Scale 40 for around R15’000, awesome components if you have a look at the Scott site.

I’m looking at the Spectra and Scale 40. The Spectra is priced pretty good with the Scale 40 just coming in a bit higher but with Shimano XT components.

Thanks for the price on the Shift 1. Really like the components.

Do you know any dealers other than Cycle Factory that have stock of the Silverback Spectra?

Am I just being blind? I can't find the Scale 40 on their site... Only the Scale 30 and Scale 70. Do you have a link please?

Nice, what Shimano 30 gear set do you have on it? How much does the Spark 40 retail for if I may ask?

The Scott Scale 40 looks pretty cool! Looking at the spec it falls somewhere between the Shift 1 and Shift 2. More towards the Shift 2 maybe.

I did notice that they say the Scott frame is made from 6061 aluminium alloy, while the Silverback Shift frame is made from MU9 alloy which is supposedly 2/3 the density of other alloys, and 1/3 the weight. I'm an electronic engineer and not a mechanical/chemical engineer so I don't know if this is true and/or how relevant it is? The Spectra is made from 6066 aluminium alloy which is supposedly 33% stronger and 20% lighter than 6061 Aluminium?

the SLX and XT gearing system when riding?

This is weird. I promise, it was on the site, been checking it for months now as I'm itching to get a mtb again. I'm not sure why it got removed from the site??? Does anyone know why this is?
