Was looking for a Scott MTB a while ago and cam across a number of Malaysia based shops that were half price (or less). Asked them for testimonials from customers and got no response. Eventually emailed Scott Europe, and they confirmed that they are mostly scammers.

Dont touch them unless the manufacturer says its OK, and if you can get one or more (real) testimonials from customers.

I am not sure speaking to the manufacturer will give you a balanced reply, especially if they are undercutting the manufacturers suggested price and jumping the supply chain somewhere.

....but yeah, that said, firstly, I would look at how they accept payment, if they are linked to a known payment channel like "Pay pal" chances are they will be legit and you will have recourse, the second check is if they are linked with a known Credit Card facility like Visa / Mastercard etc, ask how long they have dealt with Visa, PayPal etc, check if you can, sure, its not foolproof, but what is?

Secondly, trust your instincts, if you dont get satisfactory answers to your questions, or if little alarm bells start ringing deep in your head somewhere, close the door, most people have good instincts, unfortunately few listen to them.

Are you saying "Alibaba" is a scam site.?

Alibaba and the 40 thieves, ya it probably is...

You seem to have forgotten that Ali Baba outwitted the 40 thieves.

The alibaba site is a marketplace site. No more, no less. Finding a rotten apple there and blaming the site is about as intelligent as blaming Google because it found a scam site.

Caveat emptor.
