Wonder what the aussie cops will do with the cyclists. They're known for having strict punishment when you don't obey the laws.

.....but honestly, thats what laws are there for and the police have a duty and an obligation to enforce them. The average SA citizen has zero respect for the law, they think it do'nt apply to them (until they are aggrieved, of course, then its a quick run to the closest police station or attorney) and they can behave as they like.

 

I was stopped one year driving in a shopping Mall parking lot in Brisbane, the cop pulled me over cos he said I disobeyed a stop sign - THIS IS IN A MALL PARKING, - I apologised and said I was distracted, he was having none of it and made me sit next to him for about two hours while he showed me the rules of the road and the applicable signs - I stopped at every sign after that believe me.!!

 

....but yeah, like that will ever happen here.!

and in the US you go to traffic school for a day, to get the fine squashed and prevent your insurance premium from going up! They don't take crap there.

Yeah, dead right, I used to spend a lot of time in the USA on business when I still had my company, the Highway Patrol in the USA are a VERY respected police force, who in my opinion do an excellant job, and as you say, "They take no c**p"!!

 

One of my suppliers lived in Miami, and it was a standing joke between us that its easy to tell the South African traveller on vacation,- he is the only one speeding on the I-95 Highway.!
