10spd vs 11spd

I'm contemplating upgrading from my current 10spd Chorus groupset to a 11 spd Chorus.

What I need to know is, is there really a difference between the two? (apart from the extra gear)

Is it worth the cost?

 

I'd like to hear from those that have it and race with it

If you lika da bling and pride of ownership is high on your list of priorities then make the change - if not don't waste your money.

 

I can't think of any practical way the 11 speed will help your cycling (of course there will be a few grams saving and perhaps some mechanical efficiency improvements but if it totals 0.1% I'f be impressed).

I upgraded from 10 speed Chorus to Super Record purely because I got Super Record for a bargain price. I always thought that the extra gear is just a gimmick and didn’t think it would make a big difference but I was wrong.

 

When using a 11 23 I would have preferred a 25 for those very long and steep hills like Long Tom pass but when using a 11 25 or a 12 25 on the flats, I felt I missed a ratio in the middle. With the 11 speed the ratios are perfect!

 

The levers are also very comfy and shifting is very good. To be honest, the shifting doesn’t feel that much different to the 10 speed. It feels a bit more precise than the 10 speed though. One warning is that the levers are longer than the 10 speed so your reach to the hoods will slightly increase.
