As a private individual I need to import 5 packages from the states to the value of about 10K - all second hand motorcycle parts.

What is the limit to the amount of packages/or value a private person is allowed to import within a year.

I cant seem to find this info on previous posts.

You should be fine with it, but might be asked to use a clearing agent if you have a few packages coming in soon after each other like that so budget for an extra +/-R350 per delivery maximum (it is highly likely that such low value deliveries will get through).

I think the limit is R20k, but only 3 deliveries, but they can generally be negotiated with as long as you can show it's for your private use and not for resale... I brought in a R45k delivery and wrote SARS a letter saying it wasn't for resale and they accepted that without a problem.

PM Ngala24, he's in the forwarding business I think so can give you definite answers and could also help with the clearing agent part if necessary.

Perfect, I will wait and see what happens.

Ask for forgiveness if a problem rises.

Thanks for the info.

Does that mean that all the people ordering more

than 3 deliveries a year from all the online cycle shops

are in contravention of the law ?

Please note you need an import permit for anything 2nd hand....

refer to www.itac.org.za

and yes, for personal use as long as under R20K and no more than 3 times per annum.
