PPA has me frustrated.... help please!

Yes - but shoot me - I don't see the problem. As you say.. it is your choice not to be a member and with that not to enjoy the member's benefits.

If I am not a member of the local golf club, surely I cannot complain if I don't enjoy the benefits that the members do

so surely the membership fees go toward paying marshals to stand and do what they do, this is where I have my huge gripe and I posted it on another topic, We all pay memberships and as licensed cyclists you just have to grin and pay, even if you have no wish to be part of PPA.

These marshals are as you say volunteers and are doing it for free, so nothing of the membership fees or the crazy race fees go to them. So Where does it go.

The PPA is there not only as a body to run events but to represent US as the cycling community but again nothing is ever done, I have never seen PPA getting involved in cycling related issues, only when there is money floating round do you see the PPA banner swooping in. Tensions are high with cyclists lately and getting worse, friends are being killed on the road and hijacked on the trails, and what is done, nothing. CSA and PPA should be at the forefront of these issues and moving toward stamping them out but they stand aside when the fire burns and push in front when wallets are open.

FowlStArt - I sure you question were answered at the AGM last month - my excuse for not been at the AGM for the past number of year is it clashed with Euro Bike so I am in Germany. Do you have a reason for not been at the AGM assuming you were not their?

I do, I have been to past AGM's, it is always alot of talk and nothing ever comes of age, so unfortunately I do not have any wish to sit at the AGM only to be frustrated. so yes you assume correctly Peter, I was not there.

Coenie - I was not their this past weekend but:

1. PPA does have staff but only a handful and I can assure you most do not go ever weekend to the funrides.

2. Then PPA has funride teams who go out on the weekend who do get paid.

3. Then PPA has PPA Marshals - who are basically volunteers who help our funride teams at the funrides - these are unpaid and by the name mentioned (shes been with PPA even longer than me) in the tread the a marshals may have been rude - very hard to discipline a volunteer and yes PPA is running out of Marshals. Believe me the funride would function a lot worse without the PPA marshals - they normally organise all the start and for that they get to start at the back!

4. Then without the funride organizers - who basically do 1 funride each year - their would be hardly any funrides, yup these people normally fall under Rotary or Lions clubs and that why entries are their to help their causes! But why not go to JHB and pay 3 times the entry for a promoter to pocket?

Of course you can ask a voluntee not to be rude....

And please, stop with the attitude of "if you don't like the way we do it go elsewhere" that is pathetic.... Rather get PPA in order

Now in all aspects I am a noob and an amateur. But the way I understand it is as follows:

I buy a racetec chip and do a race.

Whether I am seeded or a member of the PPA, my results will show on racetec's website. It will not show on PPA's website and I will not be seeded, therefore I will have to start at the back of a PPA race with no change of the so very important bunches etc.

So in my opinion, if I want the benefit of seeding I have to join the PPA and If not I start at the back.

Simple......... or do I have a misunderstanding of the whole thing?

Nope you have it wrong unfortunately it does not work like that. You buy a chip and do a race, your time does NOT show on racetec website unless you are a PPA member.( That is why this threat was started )

And if you go to PPA website you would have seen that there is no time page they just send you to the racetec website, hence again.....you HAVE to be a PPA member to see your time.

Mads - thats basically correct and as it a PPA seeding index surely it should be for PPA members?

PPA seeding yes.....but why do you have to a PPA member to see your time?????

Why can I not start in temp all the time and still see time???????????

Well, I'm of to go and join PPA, against my will, I have absolutely no desire to join them, joining them now will actually just mess everything up cause I just got a new CSA License with my new Club, now a new license needs to be issued AGAIN.

Still can't believe it actually, that PPA has the audacity to omit my results for a chip I paid for, how they can have a say on whether I can see my results on Racetec is beyond my understanding I guess, and further more confusing is that CSA is allowing this!

I dont understand this either.

Timing is done by Racetec which has nothing to do with PPA??

that is another problem ... there is nowhere else to go, PPA is the only option!

I only joined the PPA in June 2010. But before that(3years), my time showed on the racetec website - but not the PPA website. I was not seeded at PPA and I had to start right at the back of races. And that is the reason why I joined the PPA and to get seeded and the discount on the races

As I said before it is a business. A good business will corner the market which in this case seems to have been done. PPA was losing members due to their uselessness and so instead of correcting their ways and providing a better service they went and came up with CSA and now it seems Ractec. "We cant improve but we can find ways to get your money"

I have done many races where the marshals are voluteers (I have marshaled myself) and it is always a jol. The "promoters" provide snacks, (boerewors rolls at Gravel Travel) and much more whereas PPA supply water if you lucky. The question has to be asked again, Where is all the money going? (how much is a ticket to eurobike)

Why cant PPA with their huge list not get volunteers that love the sport? (simple because PPA themselves are not here for the sport but the money...they are a business after all)

The AGM meetings are a complete waste of time, new leadership is needed and those fat cats must step down.

I only do funrides and always have nothing but praise for the organisers (which when it is a success PPA fly their flag but if its a balls up PPA wont take the slightest responsibility. Thanks to this attitude more people are staying away from events.

PS, I only Mountain bike as PPA promised more cycling awareness and safer roads but roadies are still dying or getting injured.
