What is the difference betwen BB30 and Megaexo?

 

How do you know what BB your bike has, or needs, when you are buyibg a new crankset and BB?

 

How do you know the width of your BB, if you want to go to 2x9 or 2x10?

So generally, i presume, I do not wnat to have a BB30 crank as it will probably not fit. I am still confused though as I am looking at getting the FSA mtb crank shown and they talk about 386 and Megaexo and I have no idea what they are! I have a Merida 2009 frame.

Mega Exo - that is a standard external BB.

They come in Italian or British.

The BB30 crank will only fit a BB30 frame.

How do you know the width of your BB, if you want to go to 2x9 or 2x10?

 

The with of the bb is determined by the frame 68mm = British BB

70mm is Italian (talking in roadie terms now)

 

There is no difference between 2x9 or 2x10

That is just a sales ploy, I am yet to meet a chainring blade that knows if it is a 10speed or 9speed blade or whether it is running a 9 speed or 10 speed chain. They stick 10speed branding on there and want you to pay more!
