Depends where you will be in the pack, I rode last year with a 34T, 1x10 and 11-42, with no problem but then there where so many people walking 'push of a climb' you could not ride anyway! This year I am riding 34T 1x11 but will not be up front and certainly 32T will be easier as I found very few places that you will spin out on Sani.
  2. Anyone got any good ideas for accommodation the night before the race, needs to be near the start, walking or riding distance, as we are flying in and picking up the bikes there and won't have a car. Not looking for anything flash but then again not a floor to sleep on or a double bed to share with my mate! Cheers.
  3. Until I find a better one! Currently riding a PYGA OneTen29, one of the first 100 produced, and have not found anything better, for me, yet. Now on its third drive train.
  4. Welcome neighbour, you could not have picked a better spot. You have easily 50kms or more you can ride up and down the spruit completely off road. Go and speak to the guys at The Trailhead bike shop by Fratellis, very friendly, and they will help you out with the routes and trails and probably introduce you to other riders you can hook up with. Always plenty of people riding the spruit everyday and millions at the weekend. Enjoy, see you out there.

Final choice.........riding 11/42 with a 34T front, but should I change to 32T front for Sani, or even just day 2? Been riding up and down Breedts with my 34T and seems fine.

On Day 2 profile it has a 700m climb over 35kms, so.......as Clarkson says...... 'how hard can it be'...................famous last words!!!! Plan is to go hell for leather down the hill to give my self enough time to walk up the whole climb out of the valley if need be!

Doing my first and been trying to get in 100-150kms a week since Jan. I'll be very happy to average 15-16km/h and take in the sights. Doing the adventure not the race so will be there for an adventure NOT a race! Butterflies already but can't wait.
  8. If you really love him/her, and for a fraction of the price, a 1kg tub of 'Udder Cream' form your local farm vet!
  9. Yeah, all very good for going downhill but not the best for going uphill. I've run many setups from 65mm stem with 25mm offset seatpost to 110mm stem and straight post with 660mm bars up to 780mm bars, so you can set it up anyway you want depending on your riding. Currently ride it with 90mm stem, straight post and 720mm bars, as per bike setup. For me, there is plenty of room in a Large Pyga for someone 1.87m. Again, personal choice and I probably would love an XL as much and not really notice.
  10. Can I ask, why? I was always told it was better to ride the smaller frame if you are on the edge between two sizes. Have never had any issues and have had a proper bike fit done with no concerns raised.

They say Nando's will be at Glencairn but not Scottburgh, so at least we know they will be there!
  12. Bit of a trek from Dublin, Ireland, but if he can afford it maybe he should just buy both bikes. I have a 110 and love it but then I am 1.87m.
  13. So what actually defines this area, would like to know for myself. Other than that, I assume we have as much right to be there as anyone else.
  14. Please explain why..........'we have less right to be there'?
  15. I agree that all trails are for everyone, but my point was more the effort made by the cyclists, spruit faries, to alleviate the problem by getting off the main trails and out of the way.
  16. I agree with the sentiment of the post, the park is for everyone, but it is interesting how many walkers, with or without dogs, now walk on the trails that were built by cyclists around the outer rim of the park to try and avoid confrontation with walkers on the main trails. Would be interesting to see the reaction if we started shitting on their trails and not clearing it up!
  17. Would love to see some pics of the 'normal' folks riding, styling, crashing, puffing and panting.
  18. I believe you need a prescription now!
  19. General rule for multidirectional single track is;- same direction: keep left, pass right, as you said - opposite direction: pass left, ie. always keep left where possible - rider ascending has right or way, generally and.........buy a bell!
  20. I thought the cut off for the prologue was 3hrs? Money well spent.......NOT......... if you get booted after the prologue!!!
  21. WOW, 30K for 30mins of riding and that's your Epic over...........must be a few bleak people out there! All those 100K bikes tumbling down the rocks!
  22. Bit like trying to stop the tide coming in! I have seen it in flood and from the fence to the tree line disappears under about a foot of water! Need Parks to get that water into the storm drain in Bantam.
