The race is not about the goodie bag. When I heard that the registration was at Moses Mabidha I got all kinds of excited, you get to see a world cup stadium up close and personal. So I drive all the way from EL get all excited about seeing the stadium. And where is the registration? In an underground parking lot, epic fail!!!!!!! There were no signs indicating the way to registration. And worst of all there was a bloody power balance stall!!!

I chose not to mention the power balance stand... ;) but I agree with everything you said. With the alure of the Moses Mabida Stadium I thought that was an indication that things had been stepped up from Suncoast last year. At least at Suncoast in the past the expo was interesting. This year it seems that they have been kicked to the kerb (pun intended) IMHO Amashova race organisers need to take a leaf out of the local MTB race organisers book.

I know it's not about the goodie bag but it does make a difference to most people, not everybody is there to race and majority of the people entering are doing it for a fun ride and the whole package.Pre event and finishing their ride. And without these people the race is bound to fail in the years to come

Agree with all, but must mention that the medal was much nicer than last years 94.7. Always something to complain about but why can they not get it all rigt. No mention about the issue with the T Shirts.

I agree that the " Expo" was a waste, but the sports shop at the stadium must of been smiling. I spent R500 on stuff i needed that i was going to buy at the expo. Even Hattons stall at the start had more for sale.

I must admit that as a normal rider not a racer its the whole package deal that makes us want to do the race again year on year. Still cant get my head around the T shirt price. Oh well they can refund me my Mony.

2 complaints, firstly, why bother having pre-entries if you aren't going to bother checking the numbers and then running out of socks? I know it sounds petty comlaining about socks but I pre-entered and expect to get what everyone else gets.

Secondly, why cant they have a regostration point in Pmb also? I dont know about comrades but for Dusi you can register in Pmb or Durban. Loads of people travel down from the North and stay overnight in Pmb, but then have to travel to Durban to register. You should be able to select your registration point and then register in either Pmb or Durban.

Big disappointment! This race is fading away slowly but surely.

Timed finishers:

2007: 3370

2008: 3316

2009: 3444

2010: 3545

Its a great race & the weather really played its part this weekend. 10 of us drove down from Jhb Saturday, back Sunday - brilliant weekend.

Bitching about goodie bags? Surely life is too short for that?

I battle to understand people who moan about goodie bags... did you enter a cycle race or the oprah christmas wishlist show? come on... stop being a bunch of scrooges, be gratefull for any added extra's you get.

Read my post properly....The so called "expo" was a big disappointment! I could not give a crap about the goodie bag.

I dont think the goodie bag is the issue. They actually said that there will be no goodie bag before the race. At least we got a cap at the finish.

But the expo was really bad.

SOCKS? What socks? I got an empty bag, which I gave back......... This race is fading away slowly but surely.

Sorry - thought this was a bitch about a goodie bag, my mistake.

Nice of you to concede that you were wrong on your main point though.

Don’t know so much about conceding to that point. The quality of the entire experience is going downhill.... will see in the next few years. I love the actual race itself. Awesome route but the organisers can improve on their efforts. MTN should keep a close eye on the event if they don’t want their name dragged through the mud.

I don't think there would be any complaints if this was the situation: R100 race entry- this includes road closure, admin and waterpoints. That's it. No promises of expos or goodie bags. You pay to ride and that's it. But we pay a fortune, get all excited by adverts and promises via emails, to only get dissapointed by the registration. If there was no payment for added extras then there would be no dissapointment when we don't get them. Agreed?

Agreed. The problem was the whole experience. The location and organisation of registration, the "expo", the goodie bag, etc. There weren't many signs at the finish either to point you in the direction you needed to go to get out. It just seems to be sliding and if MTN are associated, I hope one of their representatives are a hubber...

So moving forward we can hope for either a drop in entry fee, or more of a bang for our buck overall experience. Does anyone here have connections with the shova race organisers so we can forward this forum on? No use complaining or coming up with great ideas here without expressing them to the right people.
