Build up new bike

If one starts to build your first bike on ur own, especially the breaks and gear installation- any info from fellow hubbers where to get help either from the web or booklets for this mission?

always worth investing ion the right tools, my last 3 bikes have been frames and new/old parts that I have bolted together......easy peasy.
