I have an old set of Rolf Vector Comp rims, which have not been used much and was wondering whether I could use them on my tandem. Together my wife and I weigh about 135kg's. More specifically could I use these rims for races? Any advice...?

Personally I wouldn't - I used to pull spokes out of the rim by myself (the rim eyelits also crack).

I would only use these as racing wheels for a single - to me they're super light, super fast but a little fragile.

Hi Eldron, Just to check are you not refering to the Rolf Vector Pro, which are a lot lighter. The Rolf vector Comp as these are, are a bit heavier weighing arouond 1995 grams together?

No.

Firstly, they'll be 130mm wide at the back and your tandem 145mm. Then, if you tandem is of the older 135mm variety and you feel you can squeeze the wheel in, still don't.

These wheels are unsuitable for most cycling ativities, yet alone tandem riding.

If you tell me you don't care about their longevity and when (not if) the rims crack in a few months time you'll just toss them and besides, you'll only ride slowly to church every nagmaal, then I'll say, OK do what you please.

Finaly, those are wheels. Rims are just one of many components on a wheel.

Morning Johan,

Thank you for your reply, I was hoping you would comment on this thread as I value your opinion based on your experience and knowledge of wheel building. So based on you comments above I will not use them on my Tandem. Thanks.
