Maybe I'm just getting old, but what's up with these 3m wide DH bars we see these days? Sure, a wider bar gives you a bit more stability, but I can't remember stuff being wider than 650-700mm back when I still raced in '99. Now, it seems like a wingspan comparable to a Boeing isn't at all out of place.

What gives? Surely it just becomes a mission to manage at a point?

rode 750s on Shova for a while now - nice for turns and grip - but not so hot in tight trees - and even worse on night rides! So back to 710s on the Nomad - i think somewhere in between is best for me.

MH: i bought mine for two reasons:

stability thru the gnar - the extra leverage helps keep the bike stable over them incessant babydooms who always want to spit your wheel in a way that condemns your body to a involuntary dismount.

Getting over the front wheel: wide hand stance brings that chest forward. I had a nasty habit of being too far back. The wider bar fixed that in a hurry.

Disadvantages: steep stuff. u too far forward and it limits your rearward movement in the cockpit. To help fix that, I'm bought a bar with slightly more rise, and have slackened off the HA by moving the rear shock pivot point.

I started off with the stock Boobar size of 780mm. But the issues of clipping trees and such similar crap prompted a trim. So I lopped off 15mm each side and am now at a very comfortable 750mm. Will do the same with the replacement Boobar which has more rise.

sheesh ... and I'm looking to trim down my 600mm wide flatbar by 30mm.

wow! you may as well clamp a vise-grip to your steerer tube and cruise taxi style! hahaha!

hahahaha!

ok... I'll admit that I have a set of 680's in the garage as spares... but that's as narrow as I'll go.

Currently running the 780mm wide 1" rise Answers on the DH bike.

720mm wide 1.5" rise Race Face Diabulous on the FR bike.

After riding the 780's for a while, the 720's feel like Tarmac's bars by comparisson, hahaha!
