buying polar from CRC

Have anyone bought a Polar from Crc? Is there import duty on it? will the local distributor work on them and honor the warrnty?

I've ordered four in the past. There were no additional levy payable. I seriously doubt whether the local Polar agents will honour the warranty. There is a serial nummber embossed on the metal back panel of the wrist unit and I'm pretty sure they'll check this before doing any work on it.

My experience is that they will work on an imported Polar, but they'll charge a handling fee.

 

Under the terms of Polar's international warranty, they cannot refuse to repair or replace it, provided it's a model that's available here and you have a proof of purchase from an authorised dealer

 

During the guarantee period, the product will be either repaired or replaced at any of the authorized Polar Service Centers regardless of the country of purchase.

 

Guarantee with respect to any product will be limited to countries where the product has been initially marketed.

just check, but I recall that CRC does not ship Polar products to SA but Total Cycling does......unless it has changed.

A friend of mine bought one from them about a month or two ago- so they definately do ship here

We purchased our Polar S725 SX's from Totalcycling. No import tax. A cadence meter packed up. Polar SA sent a mail to Polar HQ to check if they were distributors, it took too long as we had to return to Mozambique so I had to pay for a new PC board. I sent the invoice to Totalcycling and they reimbursed me. I also had the cadence and speed modules that I imported at the same time set to work on the Tandem (turning up the "volume"). Polar did that without question. Since then battery changes and button replacements has all been done without questions.
