I am looking for some new brakes, for my trance x1, at the moment i have 160mm avid juicy 5's. Problems are, constant noise no matter the adjustment, no reach adjustment, get brake fade on longer downhills.

In my ignorance i have narrowed my choices down to the following;

1. Hope Tech X2

2. Hayes Stroker Ace 2011

3. Avid Elixir CR Carbon

Can i get some recommendations please, feel free to add any other suggestions and motivate

Thanks

DHK is probably correct, but what it an assured fact, is that it's the most expensive.

Shimano Saint brakes are also awesomely powerful, and cost less than the FOrmula The One brakeset. (But i could be wrong <_<)

Juicy brakes are known to fade under prolonged braking: cure: brake less, or upgrade as u are intending.

I'm currently running the Elixir CRs (C = contact point adjustment, R = reach adjustment) and they are more than enough for my application (DH).

Also, if you want more stopping power, think of increasing your brake disc size: u still have 185 & 203mm disks to play with.

Which brake do you mostly use: Front or Rear? if the rear, learn to use the Fronts more, and load that up with a large sized disk.

Thanks for the replies so far,

Looked at the formula's but they are out of stock at CR

Capricorn do you have any problem with noise on your Elixir CR's?

I've read reports of some folks having squeaky noises with even elixirs, but I must be very very honest: zero issues.

if i've come off a particularly dusty track, and forget to wash my bike, on the next day's ride, it does squeak a little, but a few braking points later: it's gone. If it persists, I just wipe the disc with a cloth (if still out riding) and my squeaks disappear. BUt i've never had a persistent squeal or turkey garble (apparently the latter affected the juicy 5's a lot, but so far, I've never had that issue on my juicy 5s either).
