Ok so im a MTBer who recently bought a road bike - i have a spare set of mtb spd pedals which i put on the road bike and have just been using my mtb shoes on the road... (they arnt cheep and have carbon sole so pretty stiff)

Doing the DC next weekend and Die burger the weekend after that - Do u guys recon im fine with my current set up or should i rather bite the bullet and get the road shoes?

if so which shoes should i get (for under 2k)

If they are comfortable why not? Not sure if you will get hot spots from the smaller pedal platform from sitting and pedalling for 6 plus hours though. If you do buy new shoes though be sure to test them well before DC.

I was going to do the same on my road bike which I've just started riding. The road shoe does make a considerable difference in my opinion anyway. More surface area when pedalling

thats what im worried about - my feet tend to feel extremely numb after a long ride - not sure if 1 week is long enough to get used to the road shoes...

Horses for courses, buy road shoes. You wouldn't put off road tyres on a C63 AMG.

Hey, thats not a bad idea! Just raise the suspension a bit and it will most likely be the first proper performance car to go off road (excluding guys who crash into the off road section coz of speeding). Will even beat these bling discovery's that are 4x4 but will MAYBE see one gravel road in its life, let alone offroad.

It's all about personal preference. If I knew that I was doing the DC and I only had MTB shoes, I would have made a plan long time ago. Have fun!

That SUX! I'd say get a pair of shoes and take them for a spin next week. Are you looking at the same pedals? I would get a pair of 'large platform' pedals to spread the load. Something like this: http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/shimano-pd-5700-105-spd-sl-pedals

Good luck with the race.

Think i might do that - i was actually given a set of Look Carbo pro pedals when i bought the bike (not sure what they are like but they feel rather heavy!)

Thanks - DC should be fun!
