August 12 - President's Newsletter October 2007

As many of you will know, I have been in Greece on holiday over the last 3 weeks and I can thoroughly recommend the Greek Islands for cycling! However, I was most dismayed and disappointed at the complete debacle around the selection of our teams for the World Championships, in my absence. I fail to understand how the selection process can have gone so completely skewed bearing in mind we have a complete set of instructions on how our Commissions and selection panels are supposed to work. As so often is the case, it seems some folk only resort to the instructions "when all else fails". Apologies are definitely owing to the cycling fraternity at large as well as certain individuals. September 4 - Message from Vice President regarding Worlds Selections

There has been speculation of improprieties in the selection procedure of the ladies team to represent South Africa at the World Championships in Stuttgart. Cycling SA has satisfied itself that the processes leading up to the selection were indeed correctly adhered to and reaffirm its support for the original team as selected.
As part of the ongoing process of improving all systems and procedures within Cycling SA, we are ensuring that constant reviews are undertaken in order that we remain compliant with a selection process that is both fair and transparent. Our thanks and gratitude are extended to the selectors involved for the time, effort and commitment shown.

DAVID BELLAIRS
VICE-PRESIDENT
CYCLING SOUTH AFRICA

So he admits he is the only one that's correct?

My teacher taught me: "If you are the only one that's correct  you must know you are wrong!"

Holy Roller - so you never take a holiday?

Everyone takes holidays so please dont point fingers at someone for taking a holiday. I work for myself and strangly enough when ever I plan to take a holiday it always seems to be the worst time to take a holiday - even when it was planned months in advance! I.E. it never seems to be a good time, but you have to be able to walk away and recharge the batteries.

As pointed out their are procedures / instructions for selection - I do not know what these are and no doubt they are always been updated. But the reason for procedures is so that 1 or more people should be able to be absent and things should run perfectly fine!

Knowing the president quite well I know he is spending a great deal of time adopting procedure which hopfully will remain in place long after he has left. In fact because of the foresight he had many years back cycling now benefits hugely for the Cape Argus Pick 'n Pay cycle tour and has continued to do so even though he is no longer chairman of PPA of on the Cycle tour trust.

bla di bla di bla ... if the number one lady cyclist at the country's championships get's left out of a team it can only be politics and agendas and that means the interest of cycling in many other areas will also be similarly corrupted ... therefore ... to the gallows!!!!

icycling, second thoughts. you know what? he holds an important position. bet you complain about the president of the country, mr mbeki, when he's so busy flying around the world, and somebody gets their lunch money stolen and you're, like, oh, what's mbeki doing about crime?

fact is, the debacle that dismays him so happened on his watch. the selectors were supposed to be observing and selecting throughout the year before the worlds. they didn't, by their own admission. the debacle didn't happen when he was on holiday.

for him to intro a statement about his fun getaway trivialises the matter
