Para - fortunate no other damage to the bike, although bunny hopping over a kerb on the way back to the start/finish area, my "loose" handlebar jammed itself between my fork and tyre with the result being the front wheel locked and "threw" me over the bars. Little Big Ben (Byron) was behind me & helped me get untangled from the bike. LOL

Daemon - that plaster sure sticks like hell & yes I can consider myself fortunate. Been there & done that before (Comrades 2003 with ITB).

IanJ - Thanks for the bike wash !!

Needless to say, I have replaced my bars and put on Race Face Deus XC low risers (Aluminium).  Did a 50k ride down the Spruit yesterday and enjoy the low risers.

So, oblivious of the pending mudbath ahead, KayC and myself headed out back to the course after some refreshments...

After doing the cyclocross race ( even the medal had a cyclocross bike on it, strange) disguised as a 6 hour MTB race I now the following:

<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

1) Cyclocross would not work for me.

2) I really glad that I do not live in England/Europe/Canada etc where this is the default weather conditions except it is cold too.

3) Summer races are not such a good id?e.

4) I should consider building that rigid single speed bike for such conditions.  I would have hated doing the race on an expensive multi pivot full suspension bike.  I winched every time I looked down and saw my chain lubed with mud.Cry

For the rest it was fun. I learned a lot about mud riding.  The race would have been really nice if it was dry.  Nice venue too.
