Sasol 50ppm (parts per million) diesel is the best available locally. If you drive a modern diesel I have been told by a reputable mechanic to stay away from the 500ppm diesel (My wife drives a 1,9TDi Audi). It damages the injectors. Bearing in mind that these modern diesels are designed to run in 1st world countries where their diesel is rated at 10ppm!! I drive a 1996 Isuzu that will run on cooking oil if need be Hahaha :D The older vehicles you can run on any diesel as the tollerances are a lot bigger regarding the injectors.

Interesting reading. Not to technical, but to the point.

"Side note: Once or twice a month I add a % of 2 stroke oil or an additive like redex or Liqui Moly equivalent to a full tank, both the diesel or petrol cars.

It goes a long way towards engine lubrication and keeping the injectors clean and/or from being damaged." Spoke to a regular hubber who happens to work in the petrochemicals industry. I heard about this on 4wd forum. This is apparently very bad for your engine. It actually clogs up your injectors. Put as little stuff in your fuel as possible. His advice was to use the low sulphur fuel and religiously stick to oil change. What I never realised is that the engine oil plays a major role in engine cooling. When it turns to sludge the cooling efficiency of your engine deteriorates. Read what you want into it.

Oh by the way, just checked my receipt from Shell in Parkhurst. R8.46 per litre! Need to be alert when I fill up. (Our country needs lerts)

In Nigeria diesel is ZAR 5.25/litre if you buy in bulk you can get it for ZAR5.00/litre. In Angola we paid ZAR 2.70 (may be mistaken and could be less).

Wow, cheap! That's weird because Mozam is more expensive than SA... and by quite a bit if I remember correctly.

Quite true words there!!!

Bear in mind...you get modern diesel engines - they definately NEED low sulfur diesel 50ppm

BUT older bakkies especially will run on anything (cooking oil...has been proven).

So 500ppm diesel is quite fine!

My 2002 Isuzu runs just great on 500ppm diesel I buy from the WPK co-op here in Stellenbosch...R7-60 /L...I get 10L/100km and absolutely zero smoking! Regular oil changes is the secret...
