just not as good as proper tubeless

I have a question for those that have tried it all ...

I have used UST (proper) Tubeless tyres (Maxxis Larsen TT ) with sealant that have worked well, but I am thinking of getting normal folding bead Kendal Karmas to run as tubeless with sealant. This will save about 220 grams per tyre compared to the UST's of about 700 grams each.

Apart from sidewall cut issues, any other complications/problems I should be aware of ?

i meant sealant in a tube wasn't as good as in the tyre.

but the sidewalls of non tubeless tires are not as thick. i ran non-tubeless conti tires as tubless and air was slowly escaping out of the thinner sidewalls - nothing that really effected me, but they had to be pumped up every few days.

also you loose your sealant quicker through the thinner tire (either from more punctures that need to be sealed or minor loss through the thinner sidewalls)so you have to top-up more

plus i've always found that a proper tubless tire is easier to seal, but i don't know if that's just in my mind - i haven't tried 2 of the same brand (ust and non-ust) at the same time

No mention of Joe's sealant? Inferior to Stans?

Intend going tubeless on WTB wire bead and Speed Disc rims - anyone have any experience with this combo?

I use Stans in my tubeless tyres and agree that it works( most of the time), but that video made me laugh!!! How many litres of Stans in those tyres???

As far as I know WTB tyres are not recommended for use as tubeless unless you buy the UST specific ones. I stand corrected, but I remember reading that WTB has made an area of the sidewalls very porous on purpose, to prevent people using them for purposes they were not intended for.

I can't remember where I read it, but it was on a website that covered Ghetto tubeless techniques and a list of tyres , good and bad.

But don't let me stop you, give it a go and with enough sealant it ought to work.

Aha Moolz, found this and WTB not recommended

Have heard a couple of times about tyres being to porous to convert, but won't the Stans just seal the pores?

I converted cheap jalco rims this weekend and the stans easily sealed the "part where the two ends of the rim meet each other". Also sealed a bunch of small holes/pores in the non-UST rocket rons

Agree that eventually enough sealant ought to cure porous sidewalls, but if you read the link it seams that certain brands of tyre have "unrealiable beads - known to snap or so loose they roll off the rim".

it doesn't seal very well because the air leaks very slowly out of the pores and this doesn't force the sealant into the pores - maybe seals some up but from my experience there is still leakage

Thanks for this!

Much appreciated...

Ill give it a bash and see if I can get it to seal...

If it doesnt - ill need to figure out a good tyre combination (UST)...
