i think it is quite common. but have a look at your setup that you dont have too much weight on your wrists and hands.

sit up every now and a again and shake it out (hands)

"and shake it out (hands)" - LOL!!

I like it. Isnt it amazing how we complain about our numb hands, and after 200km we never complain about other numb bits, or do you think thats because its passed the stage of numb and gone dead - hahaha!

I was reading an article somewhere, the other day, and apparently this can be quite common amd painfull with cyclists. It has something to do with the nerves at the top (bottom) of the wrist. Check your setup, and definately move your hands around a bit more.

Will see if I can find the article.

I had the same problem and found that it was usually my bum that went numb first and then my left hand. Also still numb for a few days after ride.

Made the following changes that seemed to solve the problem. Seems to originate from the nerves in your bum. <_<

1.Splashed out on a REALLY decent set of bib shorts for long distances and races-Giordana/Assos- top stuff.

2. Did take myself and my bike in for professional set up.

3. Make a conscious effort to get in and out the saddle and move my hand position from time to time during the ride.

The distance you did a numb hand would have been the least of my worries :D

the only problem i have with numb hands and bits is that i never know if its back in its place properly after a wizz...hehe

just a tip: we usually use a preferred hand when taking the bottie and drinking...try and swop it around so that both hands/wrists take a break

Definitely bike set up, not sure where you are based but try out the guys from CycleFit, (Arran Brown & Richard Baxter), they did my set up for R350, they really do know what they are doing.

Thanks very much...... I am to scared to ask about the other numbness, yes but fiddling with IT with gloves on makes the putting back harder....

I always figures my numb hands was a result of the brain that was controlling it :( .....now I feel so much better.

Hmm...setup. When I took my bike in for a setup the ideal saddle position for my measurements was about 25mm lower than my knees liked it. I suffered through some very painfull knees untill I raised it up. Wht I am thinking now is that I might actually have to lift the bars as well, seeing as my *ss-up position might cause too much weight on my hands, accounting for the numbness (40km rides will cause it). I change my hand positions very often, 4-5 times per km.
