When are children ready for riding with clipless pedals?

 

Both my 10 and 12 year olds are perfectly happy with their dirt jump type flat pedals, and they ride absolutely everyting on the mountain. At some stage they'll obviously progress to clipless pedals, but when would be the best time for that?
