Looking to upgrade my brakes, and thinking of getting some avid's since apparently they have now sorted out a lot of their previous woe's.

Question is how much better are the elixr CR compared to the Avid elixir 5's? CWC dont have the elixir R's in stock which would have been my first choice since its 1k cheaper than the CR.

good question covie, but given it's all taperbore technology, my answer would be: not much different, except wrt cosmetics.

from the SRAM Site:

Elixir 5 offers the same ride quality as higher-end Elixirs, in a simpler package. With features like our modulation-enhancing TaperBore Technology, powerful two-piece caliper design and easy access tooled reach adjust, this brake offers the best power and control in its class. When what’s around the bend remains to be seen, the Elixir 5 is like having a handlebar-mounted Miss Cleo.

Given those specs, you tell me Covie :) Nice that the Elixir 5 has reach adjustment, but probably via that recessed hex head screw. no biggie really, but i've come to love have reach adjustment on my CRs. Mess around with the Contact pad adjustment as well once my pads are well worn down, but otherwise, reach adjustment for the win. Set and forget, except some folks like Omega man think's it's pretty funny to mess with the C & R settings when u not watching your bike.. <_<
