Hi there, currently I have a Garmin Forerunner 305 that I am very pleased with, great training partner on and off the bike. I now have an option to trade mine in on the newer Forerunner 405 but that still means I must pay in what I payed for the 305 a year back. Would you guys think it is worth it?

What do you want out of the device?

Also, the bezel on the 405 does not work when it is wet.

I have the 405 and ran in the pouring rain with it. Worked just fine.

I'm also a Forerunner 405 user.

Maybe you are just lucky... When the bezel gets wet, it (the bezel, not the stop/start/lap buttons) becomes nearly inoperable. Google it, I'm not the only person who sits with that problem.

405 battery is a shocker. If you train every day, get ready to charge it every day.

Depends what you want from it, the battery lasts 7.5 hours when using the GPS (which admittedly is the main reason of being for it)

Comrades, 200+km long rides are pretty much out of the question yip, but know your equipment and its limitations

I run nearly every day of the week for about 50 minutes and do not need to charge it every night. Maybe once, mostly twice a week does the trick when using it only for running.

I'm quite happy with mine as I do not like to run in the run, nor do I want to swim with my watch (GPS tracking with a Garmin on the arms generally sucks, most put theirs under their swimming caps, irrespective of whether it is waterproof like the 310XT or not)

I had 2 405's replaced because of the freezing bezel problem. In the end I dumped it for the 310 xt. Now that is a great product.I never leave home on a training ride/run without it.

Save your money and stick to the 305 if you are not going to up grade to the 310xt. That's my opinion.

If you are happy with the 305, why bother trading in for another watch.

If it aint broken - don't fix it.

I had 2x Forerunner 50's that both gave up the ghost 2 months out of warranty, this model had been discontinued and hadno choice but to upgrade at a substantial increase in cost.
