Who needs 20 gears, a light bike, the latest cycling gear....

This morning on my way to work I saw a farm worker on an old "dikwiel" riding up this pass. He must have had a cadence of 30, because the dikwiel had a big gear ratio. Mostly the farm workers push there bicycles up this hill.

Years back I was overtaken in the last stage of the Jock by a post office worker on his red dikwiel and work clothes. Don't know what suffered more, my legs or my pride.

Last weekend I did the Crater Cruise (100k) on a singlespeed - other hubbers including Holly Roller too.

It was hard work, but overtook many others on their geared machines.  Also when the mud sections arrived I sailed through wereas those with gears had to clean mud from their sprokets.
