Hey guys, I just wanted to know how i could make my bikes vertical dropout into a single speed without having a tensioner. Can you buy a special hanger for this? My bike is a scott voltage yz0.

thanks :)

you can buy a hub that moves back and forth, so it would be as if you had horizontal drop outs, other wise you could try get the right chain length with a half link chain. @nd option will prob be the easiest

At the peril of sounding stupid , what is a half link chain and how does it work? It sounds impossible. I agree that a SS looks better without a chain tentioner. Better to ask dumb questions than to remain ignorant.

It's not a half-link chain, but rather a link that removes a half-link from the chain length... check it out here. Your best bet is to use a chain tensioner. I was lucky in that after converting to ss I din't need a tensioner or even a half-link, it just happened to work out okay. But after 6 months or heavy riding, my chain has started to skip which I attribute to chain wear, a tensioner is now on my shopping list because the new chain doesn't fit the same.
