Have to say though' date=' the man of the moment is Sam Hill I think. Read an article a couple weeks ago about his race at the Champerey World Cup described by the author as the greatest ride in the history of downhill racing.

Read it in some mag but will see if I can find it online

Agreed.... that Aussie is a machine...

Where was it when he had a run (NZ???) in the pouring rain, and still klapped the entire field, many of which had had their runs earlier, in the dry!!

Some freakish skills needed to pull something like that off...

Go Greg!

thing with GM is his consistency and his ability to perform when it counts - similar to Vouilloz - although not as freakishly fast.

apart from his 4th this year at Worlds - he's medalled very year since 2002....pure class

look with a new bike, new team and a  new shoulder - he'll be fast in 08.

Can't find the article I read earlier, but this is from Southerndownhill

"No one could come near the top times, until Sam Hill came down the course in what possibly is the greatest downhill ride we have ever seen. He ended up third, in the worst conditions, twenty seconds faster than anyone in the mud, the whole field surrounded him in utter shock at what he had achieved. The records will say that Matti won this race, but this track was owned totally by Sam Hill. Sam saved Adam Brayton's bacon by knocking him off the podium at the last moment. Still everyone is in total shock, he could have won this, even in the rain. In the dry, the rest of the field would have been embarrassed."

checked the stats - GM has more elite DH hardware (5) than any other pro currently racing - in fact only Nico has more

add to that 24 world cup podium appearences - included in that is 5 wins and then 2 overall titles....

You can then add like 9 Norba DH race wins, with 2 overall title wins.....

like someone said on another forum, Santa Cruz frames have just gone up by $10

on top of the performances he's one of the nicest guys around and I wonder how many of the other downhillers wil stick with himat Sani2C or Cape Epic - he rode way up there this year. He must be one of the most talented cyclist ever in this country.

PS: go check out his 2007 racing helmet at Finish Line Cycles, complete with crash marks from the Fort William incident. Its a piece of art!
