My boet picked up a lekker commuter bike from a hubber in JHB for me, now we need to get it to CPT.

Any advice on the best way to courier the bike from JHB to CPT?

Or are you guys aware of any bike shops that will be willing to pack the bike and courier it for me?

Thanks in advance

The best rate I found for a complete bike is DCB Logistics, door to door was about R350 if I remember correctly (most courier companies are closer to R1k). Ask his LBS if they can pack it in a box for you, Cycle Lab was more than happy to help me out with packing it in one of the boxes from one of their new bikes.

Bike box(cardboard) and your trusty post office. It'll take up to a week, but if you ask for insurance you'll have tracking too.

Size is not an issue, they only work on actual weight. I sent an empty bikebag weighting 13kg from CPT to PE and I think it was just over R100(Got quoted R800 by a courier). A bike in a cardboard box shouldn't weigh much more.

Always the cheapest and pretty reliable (you will always get a tracking number with any parcel). The only problem is that they only offer insurance to a maximum value of R5k and I don't know whether I trust them enough to not insure something like a complete bike. Insurance is 2% of the value insured.

I have used Time Freight a few times with no problems. Cost was about R420 for a complete bike to Cape Town. Collected Wednesday from my house and delivered to my guesthouse on Friday.

My post office wanted to charge R800 as the bike box dimensions exceed their system parameters

Hi try post net. Post office just insures to R2000.00, thay take up 3 to 6 days but they do from post net to post net and from post net to home address. they are reliable with a tracking number.
