  1. Dont be nasty to the Nigerians. They did ask for your bank account to send you the money. And yes, it is known as the "African handshake" i travel to most African countries on a monthly basis. it is common practise. Should you follow the lawful system, it will takes days/ months to get anything done. Bribe then and it is done and dusted. It's call tradding
  2. HAHAHA no, but man you've got to love this country. And for those who have never had the chance to ride in Groenkloof Pretoria, it's like a petting zoo. So much wild life to see and its SAFE as can be.
  3. SBR Awesome sighting. earlier this year i was very fortunate while riding at SBR. as i was crestign the one hill a Caracal Rooikat dashed out of the long grass on the side of the road stalking a pheasant. This is a very rare sighting as you wont see them in the wild very often. So who knows, maybe you are lucky when you go training out there.
  4. see link https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/90221-nuun-optimal-hydration-tablets/
  5. Thanks Sputnik NUUN products will be availabe from January 2011 and should sell for about R75 per tube of 12 tablets. As you said you just pop them in your bottle and they fizz away. best part is they dont stay fizzy as with barroca type fizzy tablets. So for those interested. Drop me a line and book yours when first shipment lands. If the order is big enough i will maybe land stock before Xmas. nauticalnorthtraders@gmail.com
  6. Hey Klappertjie That is my opinion yes. Some may have their own way of racing, but i have raced for 18 years of whcich 7 was spent on the European Triathlon circuit. Manage your first half maybe by heart Rate. Try keeping in your Aerobic zones. There is more than enough time to race once you hit Krugersdorp rd. From a suppliment point of view. Yes, get a product with high Sodium. or Salt tablets. Remember your body is pumping blood to your muscles and dont have much time to spend digesting food / solids on a short race like this. I use a product called First Endurance. Sofar i know it is only availible at Troi Sport in Sunninghill. By far one of the best products i have used. It is fast obsorbing, and low in Carbs. Your body doesn't need that much carbs at in this event. It needs fast releas electrolites. Rehidrate is ideal on a hot day. Rennies is a first. The up side of rennies are you wont have heartburn from all the sweet drinks
  7. Hey 29er No problem. PM me you email address and i will send you a very detailed document on explaining Biomechanics of it all. Not enough space here. I too did the race yesterday. The plan was to ride between 3hrs and 3h10. I rode 3h10 on the dot. The key to succes is this. (keep this in mind for futer 94.7 races) 1) In JHB we always have heat at 94.7. 2) the part that breaks everyone is Krugersdorp road. So why race up to the 60km only to lose it all in the last 40km. With the type of terrain through JHB suburbs you tend to sprint/ accelarate and put far more strain on your legs than you plan to. This means you ride harder yet feel great. but by the time you start cramping it is just too late. So for 2011. set yourself a managable tempo. ride slower. Trust me just because the other guys are workign at the front or racing past you doesn't mean you have to chase the tyre like a dog out in the street. Let them go. The chance that you will see them on Krugersdorp road is. ......pretty good.
  8. The Basics of Core training: Loss of elasticity in your muscles due to dehydration and repetitive movement can decrease your comfort level. By massaging, strengthening and toning these muscles you can maintain a proper bike fit. THE CORE 4 Soleus *Maximum elasticity (massage) allows the soleus muscle to expand to its fullest capacity in order to transfer power from the quads to the pedal without compromising the rider's position. *Keeping consistent contact with the bed of the shoe from heel to toe box without allowing the heel to rise early allows the rider to stay in his cycling position for a prolonged period of time by pulling backward through heel of the shoe rather than scraping the mud off the bottom of the shoe. *Working this area will decrease the opportunity for the heel to turn outward. When it does this, the upper outer region of the soleus and calf can become dysfunctional. Quads *Maximize payload opportunity within the region while increasing flexibility so that the pelvis can organically shift with the rider's torso allowing the back to flatten and the pedal stroke to take advantage of the pull/push through the center of the quads rather than pulling upward from the knee relying primarily on velocity. *Decrease opportunity of adhesions (massage) allowing the muscles to fire independently rather than as one. Once all the muscles within the region stick together they are all going to increase the tension on their insertion points. Since they all attach in the patella tendon, knee problems can be avoided by rolling through these areas. *Maintaining elasticity (massage) within this region allows the muscles to transfer wattage from the center of the quads to the center of the soleus as these are the most efficient transfer points of the pedal stroke. Psoas *Maximizing elasticity (massage) within this muscle will allow more force and flexibility to be accessed within the quads, lower, and upper back by using the stabilization of the saddle and associated core muscles. *Decrease the pelvic tilt that detracts from allowing the pelvis to move naturally into a fixed static position desired for proper bike fitting. *Maintaining the elasticity within the region reduces or eliminates the compression of the L4-5 region and the static weight placed on the hands. This allows the diaphragm to be open and allow the uptake of oxygen to be as efficient as possible. Piriformis *Maximizing elasticity (massage) within the glute region will allow efficiencies in power during 6-9 o clock in the rider's pedal stoke. If you do notice a decrease in power within this region, your piriformis muscle will need to be addressed. *Increase blood flow to the sciatic nerve region allowing the neurological feed to the lower extremities to be uncompromised. *Maintaining elasticity (massage) within the glute region will allow the rider to maintain the use of the saddle as a platform for power. This platform allows proper functionality of the pelvis to occur, allowing the rider's position to be consistent for a prolonged period of time without compromising the diaphragm, quads, or shoulders. IT Band *Maximize the efficiency of the surrounding muscles by creating additional blood flow (massage) to the IT band, which is a tendon. This will lessen the restrictions placed on the muscular fibers, thus increasing the range of motion and movement patterns in this region. *Decrease the strain on the inner quad (VMO). When adhesions are present between the IT Band and Vastas Lateralis or Bicept Femoris, the rider may feel pain in the inner knee region. This is due to the IT band pulling the entire quad outward due to the lack of range of motion. *Maintaining elasticity (massage) within this region will allow the knee to track properly behind the handle bar or in line with an elbow pad (Time Trial Position), not allowing undue stress on the piriformis muscle. Pectorals *Maximizing elasticity (massage) within the region is going to allow the shoulders to rotate back naturally, taking strain off the upper back and neck region. *Arm reach to bars is more organic, and neurological feed to the hands is maximized by freeing up the nerve root within the pectoral region. *Maintaining elasticity (massage) in this region will eliminate numbness in the hand, while also allowing the rider to sit on the saddle with proper weight distribution across the saddle. This will allow power to be transferred from the center of the rider's back when the body is based on the saddle and transferred through the quads down to the pedal platform. The Bottom line is: Training, stretching and massage will take you a long way. for more info, go to www.tptherapy.com The products are now availible in SA.
  9. Regarding import duties: If you can get them to split the items on the invoice and state as Groupset XYZ Frame set ABC and get them to strip the bike, It is actually classified as frame and parts and not as a complete bike. You are still creating "work" in RSA as someone still needs to build it up for you. So you should be able to get away by only paying VAT on the products and maybe a 5-10% handling fee. Cheers
  10. I remember not to long ago there was a strike that took place by the people in the textile industry to pretect the local market. the T-shirts handed out for all to wear to support the strike had a nice label inside...... It read "MADE IN CHINA" How's that for protecting the industry.....
  11. I'm just curious.... Would this make a cow fly? Maybe Conti should have a race against a cow up them Hills....?? I think Conti will be a converted vegetarian from 2011.....
  12. Here are some small but helpfull tips. - Make sure your swim goggles are comfortable and do not make your eyebolls wanna pop out. Depending on how strong you swim you will be in the water for 1h30+. Be comfortable from the start. - Go and get yourself a "race number belt". This way you do not need to pin your number on your shirt front and back. - Do one longish ride a week with a short to mediam run off the bike. this will help prepare your body for the shock comming off the bike in a race. - Get yourself an Antiscuff stick. This is to be used on your neck to prevent the wetsuit taking the skin off the back of your neck. Lastly, do your own race. do not try to race the guy next to you because you feel good NOW. it wll come back to bite you in every possible place. Oh and most importantly do not forget to enjoy it. Good Luck
