  1. It is certainly possible yes (see my last paragraph). In such a case, the team could possibly be implied? I don't know how the team will explain that they didn't know.
  2. Even though it does look suspicious, the reason I doubt it is true, is that the circle of implication becomes much larger, and as such the risk is higher. It is likely that this sort of thing will have to be done with the knowledge of the bike manufacturer, and they have much more to loose than the athlete. They simply cannot risk such a thing, cause they will be putting their whole business on the line. And if they did take such a risk, well then they have made a very costly error of judgment. If a guy dopes, he stands alone (mostly), even though other may have known. Even others higher up the chain may get caught, but they too are mostly individuals. When a motor is used, a whole company may go down with the athlete. I cannot see a reputable company taking such a risk (although stranger things have happened, so will not bet my life on it). If it was done by one of their riders, without their knowledge of it (by some 3rd party), then the situation is slightly different, but it would still be in their own interest to get to the bottom of it and clear up the facts with the particular riders implicated, because it will undoubtedly reflect on the manufacturer indirectly. This is one case where we don't want to sing the song "make the circle bigger"

  4. I'm a photographer myself, so instinctively notice stuff like that in photos and try to avoid it in my own photos. Another typical example is elements protruding from people's heads - trees being a common, and sometimes unavoidable one.

  7. Tubeless you can run a lower pressure than tubed. Less the pressure the more the traction. At 4bar you will be flying as the rolling resistance should be less. On a 29er you can run lower than a 26er. I'm running my Fastrak 2.0's at 1.7bar front and back. In the epic over harsher terrain I used 2bar. I weigh 79kg Muuuuch nicer at lower pressure. Kewl. Thanks for the info. I am going to ride them at 2 bar this weekend and see what it feels like. I am 64kg's.
  8. I clearly know sqaut about MTB tyre pressure - let alone 29-er MTB tyre pressure. I ride at almost 4 bar all the time.

  10. Don't me mistaken, CT is not free of these things. I moved down here recently (not for crime related reasons :-), and have already seen more incidents very close to home (admittedly not bike related) in 3 months, than I have had in Pretoria in a much longer time. Also admittedly though, it does seem to be less violent here than there, which counts for something. I don't want to generalize my crime experience though - I am sure others may have very different experiences. Just wanted to note that it's still very much SA as far as crime go.

  12. I am more confused than ever But thanks for the info. As I build up a better frame of reference it will start to make more sense. Kiwi did reply to me and said I shouldn't have a problem. So even though I don't fully understand yet, it seems it should be ok if I go with them shiny wheels.

  15. OK, so my technical knowledge is severly limited, as will be evident from this post. Fortunately the finer details of knowing how a bike works is not too much of a requirement for riding them :-) However, now that I want to start to possibly chop and change some components and get extra wheels and stuff, I need to know a bit more so that I actually know exactly what I am doing. Have to start knowing this stuff sooner or later. So first (of possibly many) embarrasing question(s). What is the difference between a centre lock and a bolt lock wheel? How do I know which one I have? My bike is a 29er with a Fox shock. The "skewer" that holds the wheel to the fork just screws into the fork. It is one piece and not two pieces like my road bike's skewer. I don't know if that makes sense?? I want to get extra wheels but first have to make sure it's compatible with my skewer system? So far I like these ... https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=79592&PID=1126340#1126340 but don't want to waste 5K. Anything else I need to think of? I know I have to get an extra casette, extra disk brake plate thingys, tyres and tubes. I assume they will all be compatible. Thanks for any advice/help.

  20. Fortunately I don't see myself becoming a downhill rider soon (from my limited understanding of what the term "downhill riding" means). My technical skill have some way to go yet. Of course, I have never "tasted" downhill riding, and as it is with many things, once you taste it .... But regardless, the said purpose for this bike was commuting, and the full susp was for "other" rides, so let's keep the apples with the apples
