  1. They are very good. I have sent bikes form PMB to CT & PE and back numerous times before without any issues.
  2. The only major weight saving you can make with the least amount of money is by getting lighter tyres. If you can get your hands on some 26' Maxxis Ikon you should drop close to 450g.
  3. Mongoose Meteore Team Frame + XT Front Derailleur + KORE I beam carbon seatpost and saddle = 1588g KORE seatpost with saddle = 432g XT Front derailleur = -+ 150g? Frame only = 1588-423-150 = 1006g You cant go wrong.
  4. Mongoose Meteore Team/Elite Alu best bet for sub 10kg build. Geometry & handling also excellent. Sad i got rid of mine.

    1. Just finish before it gets dark then it wont be a problem.... 2. Just need to take you ID book to register. No need for a photo its just so that you cant race with someone else's entry. 3. Eat on the bike for the run... Not just GU and carb drinks but solid food like a sandwich/baby potatoes/bananas. When you start your run it is too late to only start eating then.
  6. You are correct i go the same distances on my Garmin. The swim buoy blew away just before the start so it had to be moved back into position, they might have made a mistake in rushing to get it back in time for the start. Well done to Damian and crew, it was the best waterpoints i've ever had during a Ultra race at Midmar. Ironman standard if you asked me.
  7. Shongweni dam is about 70km form PMB. Rather try Midmar dam they have many options available and is only 25km/15min form the WC venue. Howick trails are awesome 2.
  8. Feel for you, guess i was one of the lucky ones when i got my refund on 6 Dec 2011. Seems like 'the local organisers' might be in for a few letters of demand the next few weeks...
  9. Dear Cape Town athlete It is with great disappointment that we announce Challenge Family is withdrawing from Cape Town and there will be no Challenge Cape Town in 2012. This was a very difficult decision to make but unfortunately we no longer have the confidence we can secure a long term route that meets Challenge standards. Despite extensive work with the City of Cape Town and the local organisers, we can not guarantee the issues that caused the cancellation of the 2011 event will be resolved by 2012, namely the full closure of the bike course which had initially been agreed upon and was later revoked by the city authorities. In addition, differences with the local organisers have meant the contract held by Grant Kunneke to run Challenge Cape Town has now been cancelled. For those athletes who are still waiting for their refund, we have asked the local Cape Town organisers several times to pay all refunds. With the severance of the contract comes a legal obligation for the Cape Town organisers to refund all remaining athletes before 28 February 2012. Another option for non-refunded athletes is to instead take up the offer of a start spot at the world's largest iron distance triathlon, Challenge Roth. This event sells out within a matter of hours and we can offer you a secured place for 2013. Please contact the Challenge Roth office before 28 February 2012 on info@challenge-roth.de to secure your place. Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience the cancellation of Challenge Cape Town has caused and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Yours in sport Felix Felix Walchshöfer Geschäftsführer / CEO TEAMCHALLENGE GmbH Westring 40 91154 Roth Germany

  11. I've done the Terra Firma in 2009/10. Its a nice tough race! The first 45km road bike ride is pretty much a big bunch ride till the Rooiels climb from there on it gets harder with some guys trying to get away. The 12.6km run is as flat as a pancake with the last 4km or so on smooth gravel road. The 24km MTB (575m ascent) is the tough off the run, basically up a mountain for the 1st half and then back down to Kleinmond again. Your legs will be hurting by now.. I dont know what the tide is like this year but in 2009 we ran the 9km beach run during high tide in 2010 it was low tide so a piece of cake compared to 09 think i ran 10min faster.. One tip dont let anybody tell you that must run with shoes on the beach i can remember not seeing anybody who started with shoes on the beach finish with them on. Sometimes you run in the ankle deep water from the waves as it cools you down and sand is harder... Water points are pretty scarce so make sure you have a bottle you can run the first part of your run with and maybe on the beach run aswell, on the MTB i remember i stopped to fill up my bottle as i only carried one as it's at least 1h20 of MTB.. I wont be there this year.. Good luck hope you enjoy it!
  12. SPECIALIZED REAR CAGE MOUNT MTB Make sue to get a Specialized Rib cage aswell and you will never loose you bottle too! Should be able to get them from a reputable LBS that stock Specialized.
  13. According to my Garmin file of last years race the bike was 84.93km long with 852m of overall ascent. The route is fast but almost never flat either up down or long drags. Its not difficult to ave. 30km/h+. Weather was also good last year with no wind...
