  1. The trails and variation of terrain are great, the venue, too. The route marking is far below par. What happened? There were old markings leading to a locked gate, and at the highway culvert it seems that the first couple of riders turned left on the 1st lap. Why was there no clear sign at the junction? The marshall (if it was one) appeared to be more interested watching riders go under the highway than being on position at the turn (left/right????) I would come back to race at Voriberg, but this mess needs to be fixed first. Can't be that hard to get it right...
  2. Well, he was chatting her up in German, so she did blush a little...nice moment!
  3. +1 And that is Karl with my wife. She completely blew me over, coming 3rd in ladies in 2:43. Asked him for a pic with her, howgoodisthat...
  4. I would have liked to pull up next to him on my AXM, the bike he designed and built for his son Axel, who is also one ninety something, like me, and waited for him to open up the conversation...
  5. No, not some Eddie, but THE EDDY.

    Eddy?

On a run this morning the Cannibal passed us on his bike, heading out through Bantry Bay towards Camps Bay. At least I was sure it must have been him. It's great to see a legend like Eddy Merckx still doing it for the fun of it, enjoying the ride out on Cape Town's roads all by himself. My wife doubts that I could have recognised him. Anyone else bumbed into Eddy today?

    Sickness

udxcob, I dont belief in supplements. Stopped taking any and cant feel a difference. What works for me is this: more rides at less intensity, more sleep, muesli for breakfast, variety of fruit at 10am, lots of milk, good lunch. It seems that sleep and a balanced diet do the trick. I didn't have a sniff in month and am still building up strength. Recovery after races is also better/quicker.
  8. Same here. First tri in a year & still can't swim. After that it was great. Took the steel frame for a ride and loved catching up from the strugglers out of the water. Run was a little tougher but very nice with rain providing plenty of cooling. Then supported the kids in their different age groups, still wet and then also unpleasently cold. Never mind, it was a great day out. Wife finished 3rd in age group and beat me hands down. Good idea to use the bag area. Will look out for it next time. Also will make sure that my handle bars are plugged. I was refused entry to the transition area and had to go hunt for bottle caps.
  9. That's a good diagnosis of my growing condition. There is no denying and no cure for it !!
  10. True. But it is in good hands now. Interesting to see these prices on ebay, though most of them are Corsa Extra frames. Is there a big difference in value? I see that the cable on the Extra is routed through the frame. That's beautiful. Also both chain stays seem to be chromed instead of just the drive train side. The brackets on the top tube of my Corsa are partly rusted, not so nice. Bliss: Corsa with my 2009 AXM.
  11. When on MTB I ride a whole loop of Klapperkop, anti clock wise. Starting from guard house on Waterkloof end follow J.Rissik and turn right and up towards the antenna. At the top I enter a path on the left and follow it on the backside of the hill towards the reservoir / west. At the intersection I turn right and down towards the fence line and suburb. The track continues all the way down towards George Storrar . Just ahead of the guard house (not manned) a path turns left and up, left again and then into a steep, tough climb straight up. Just before you are almost back on the height of Johan Rissik the path turns right into a winding downhill through the bush. It leads almost all the way back down to Fountains Circle. There it meets a jeep track that I turn right onto and follow southwards. It comes out on Rissik above the guard house on the R21 entrance (they have just installed a boom that end to block cars going onto the track and dumping trash). I cross the road and go up the down hill route as far as I can. Back down and left onto the gnarly Zebra trail, all the way to the fence line of the golf estate. Along the fence and back up to the guard house. Lap complete. With variations and some hill repeats I can have lots of fun at Klapperkop for 90 mins in the mornings without any boredom. Great place. Havent observed any security issues.
  12. VELO & Fausto (COppi) Thanks for your feedback. I can't stop looking at the EM. It's like I have just got myself something really special. But one couldn't even get a decent helmet nowadays for that money. Velo, thanks for the details and the brochure. I was wondering about the colours and which team is was a replica of. The letter next to the serial number is an E. On the left hand side '2 C M' is stamped in. So I suppose it is 1995, a 62 size ? Wished it was a little older, but then the components wouldn't match, I suppose. Cheers again.
  13. New to the passion for steel. Love the looks of this Eddy Merckx 'Corsa', but never cycled in the days these were the latest toyson the road. Found it at my LBS on Saturday and couldnt resist the temptation. Took it for a ride this morning with the guys and haven't even been dropped once. Gears shift super smooth, it flies. According to my www research it is not old, about '95? Not sure if that can be right. It has full Dura Ace. Hubs are also Dura Ace but rims are Campy. Crank is Mavic. Can anyone tell me more? Sorry for the bad quality picture
  14. Agree with Muppets. I punctured on the back in the side wall at the Attakwas with a 29" Race King. Some sharp rock must have ripped it. When I stopped and attempted to plug the hole with my little plug, it just popped out when bombing. Then another guy on a 29" punctured. He got out one of those enormous 4mm plugs, stuffed it in, and that was it. I taped the tyre around the rim to protect the sidewall and finished with no more hassle. In turn for the assistance I swopped the 29" tube with slime that I carried on board. Luckily I never missed it. Still riding the same tyre.
