  6. Damn right! My first Argus and this was the hardest ride of my short cycling career so far. The first 50km knocked the stuffing out of me but the crowd kept me going! Got my number taken away at the top of suikerbossie! Did I quit...NO! Carried on to the end, no medals, but I am one of only 28,000 peope that can say I completed the Argus.

I used shammy cream and my shorts are Cape Storm (which I though was a good short). What over brand would you suggest? Also what brand saddle?

    Numb Nuts

Ok so I know this is a rather strange technical question but I need to ask it anyway. To the ladies please do not be offended. I bought a Raleigh RC3000 and have done some work on the setup. I completed the 116km ride for sight yesterday and really struggled getting comfortable on the saddle. At the end of the ride I went to the loo and to my horror that I was suffering from, well, ermmmm "numb nuts". Any ideas what the cause of this can be? I did the 94.7 last year, albeit on my MTB, and never had this problem.
  13. Thanks for the input guys. Will I need a new chain with a 12-25?
  14. I have been MTB'ing for a year or so and decided to take up road cycling as well. Bought a Raleigh RC3000 last year and only managed a couple of training rides before I broke my foot. Luckily I have lost the moonboot and can now train again. I had a short ride last weekend and a couple of spinning sessions during the week. The foot seems good except for unclipping from the pedals. The twist needed to unclip is still tender. Anyway I digress. Went for a longer ride on Sunday morning heading out west down Hendrick Potgieter then past Avionto, right at Kloofzicht, right at Beyers Naude, right at Peter Road, left back onto Hendrick Potgieter and the finally left up Chirstiaan De Wet....needless to say there are a few climbs on this route. What I have noticed is that I am struggling to climb as my cadence drops down to a minimum and my legs want to fall off. I obviously miss the granny gear on my MTB. The bike has a nine speed 12-23 cassette. Would I gain any benefit by fitting a 10 speed 12-25 cassette? And if so would I need to change shifters? I have the standard Shimano Tiagra shifters. Any other adivce would be appreciated. slysi2010-02-08 05:25:30
  15. My Mrs. won a car......smelt a rat when they insisted that we both go to collect the prize otherwise it was forfeited!!! Googled the number and true as nuts they have been around for yours. Effing scam artists. How come no one shuts them down? http://singe.za.net/blog/archives/948-Youve-won-a-car-Scam-Carlswald-Design-Quarter.html
  16. Sooooo.....I have been lucky enough to recover from my fractured foot rather quicky so I can start training for the Argus, albeit with only 5 weeks to go! I went out on Hendrik Potgieter early yesterday morning and the foot feels ok, a bit slow but I am sure this will pick up soon. It is amazing how quicky one's fitness goes backwards. I am trying to psyche myself up by trying to figure out how damn difficult this race is.....in comparison to the 94.7, which one is more difficult (assuming that the wind os not a factor)??
  17. Broke my frigging foot on Holiday this week! I wonder if it will be ok before Argus One thing is for sure cannot train for 6 to 8 weeks and as a first timer this is a disaster.
  18. I really enjoyed it. The winning of the RWC brought a tear to most eyes in the theatre. It was interesting to note however that my boys could not understand why the little african chap refused to wear the bok jersey when handouts were being given. It proves that they were born in a different era with not many hang ups.
  19. # 1 coming up for me. Hopefully I am better trained than for the 94.7. Bought a road bike especially, will see if it makes a difference BUT had my first training ride on it on Sunday and proceeded to fall off as I got my gear shifting all wrong. Very different to my MTB.

    SPD pedals

yes' date=' and you go faster with socks on your shoes, actually socks upto your knees [/quote'] Which would be cancelled our by my not-so-aerodynamic belly

    SPD pedals

    It does. Why?

Thanks guys. Do road pedals make a difference though?

    SPD pedals

Sooooooooo............I have been riding my MTB off and on over the past two years. I recently finished my first 94.7 and I must say that I enjoyed the road, albeit a bit slowly. I wondered if riding a road bike instead of my MTB with slicks would make any difference?? Probably not. Anyway to cut a long story short I have entered the Argus and The Fast One for next year and I consequently decided to add a road bike to my garage. I am now the lucky owner of a Raleigh RC3000. The question I have is around pedal choice. I obviously have SPD pedals on my MTB and therefore did not want to go to the expense of buying another pair of shoes and cleats just for the road bike. The Raleigh came with a set of clipless pedals. I replaced them with Shimano SPD pedals. So what exactly is the difference between a SPD pedals and a run of the mill clipless pedal? I have not seen many road bikes with SPD pedals. Should I have spent the extra money and got different shoes and cleats?
