  1. First ride after getting my new bike https://www.instagram.com/p/B7w_CVtFT8d
  2. Interesting results indeed! In the 103 members who voted, only 1 (less than 1%) rides an XS bike! Large bikes seem to be the most used, and in that spirit I'll just get myself a Large 29" for my next bike and spare myself the selling blues in the future I''ll probably be able to move the Trance for 18K as well. Not the end of the world. Like I said, I don't really have a choice. It needs to be gone asap or it will end up in storage for the foreseeable future
  3. Personally, I actually prefer some nice fat 650B's over 29s. The 29s just feel dog slow in the corners. The 650B is nice and nippy like my old 26" used to feel. But let's not start THAT debate again :D As for the size, I guess it sucks being on either side of the size spectrum, with short people only benefiting from the fact that hardly anything can ever be too small for them, whereas that's an issue us tall manne face every day, especially with the likes of bicycles, bikes and cars. I love superbikes but look like a circus bear on all of them
  4. You and I are in the same boat then. I'm 196cm so I was afraid to go for a Large, but considering the present predicament, one thing is for sure: I won't buy a new bike again. It's all classifieds from here
  5. I had considered that price might be a factor, but it's currently listed for R19k and retails for R32k, so I thought that's a pretty decent price? I would certainly have jumped at the opportunity if such a deal came a long back when I was looking for a bike last year. I've seen 2015 Trances sell for more. That being said, the XL market is pretty niche and the likelihood is that I'll have to push that price to the point where it's almost too good not to take. I have to be out of country in the next two weeks, so things are going to get interesting
  6. Hi! I've had my XL 2018 Trance in the classifieds (in and out of BikeHub) for a good couple of months already with very few nibbles and zero bites, which has made me wonder: Am I the only one riding an XL bike? I can't have a poll on height as well as bike size, but I'd be interested to get an idea of what size bike people ride for their height? Are tall people opting for Large bikes instead of Extra Large ones for the sake of future sell-ability? Let me know!
  7. Heyooo, braai at Slowbee's place!
  8. Unfortunately I won't be there, but rest assured that the perpetually drunk half of Cape Town will all be riding in this class so you definitely won't be alone
  9. Damn, now I have some FOMO kicking in
  10. Sheet. That gives you 7 hours to finish the 100km race seeing as the cutoff at the end is at 17h00, although I would not want my name displayed on any medium next to that time if it DOES end up taking me that long haha
  11. Ah, thank you kindly. As expected, current index is 0.00. So I'll be kicking off at, what 15h30 in the afternoon?
  12. Hahahaa nice! Represent! I had considered just going for it and seeing how I do, but I haven't done any seeding races that I know of, and if I did, I probably didn't finish in times that would be at all beneficial to me meaning that I'll most likely be starting in the last group and then have to race to get to the first cutoff and miss that sweeper bus (?). I should add that I'm assuming this based on what I've heard from other people, I have no idea how much of it is actually an issue. I've also heard that some people ride way at the back wearing animal costumes and riding BMXes and stuff, and somehow feel that regardless of my crappy fitness levels, I should at least be able to stay in front of those folks. The biggest challenge is probably not knowing what to expect, not having attempted it before.
  13. They are also no doubt 80% fitter than I am hehe
  14. I can't enter yet unfortunately, it would be pointless. Being more into MTB and relatively new to the cycling scene, I only recently got myself a road bike and still have a long ways to go before I can attempt a 100km road race with any hopes of finishing it. My fitness leaves a lot to be desired at the moment. It's not that it bothers me, but it confuses me that's all I'm trying to see the reasoning behind taking the risk of potentially forfeiting so many entries so close to the cutoff time.
  15. I love how substitutions close tomorrow, yet people are STILL listing entries for sale for the full price (or close to it). Especially taking into account that you'll still need to submit a consent letter, pay the substitution fee, and all that jazz before COB tomorrow afternoon. I would understand if race entries were a rare commodity at the moment, but the supply vs demand is completely twisted right now. There are 7 million entries for sale and not a soul to buy them. Cut your losses folks. Better to make a portion of your cash back than nothing at all.
  16. At the rate we're running out of water, don't be surprized if the locals are fishing whatever fluid is making that hole out with buckets on ropes by the time the race starts
  17. One of our riding group's guys also opened his knee up to the bone on Saturday on the DH line at Contermans in a OTB scenario :|
  18. I unfortunately don't have a clip of it happening, but thought that I'd share that I went riding with the new road bike in the name of fitness on Friday afternoon, and promptly fell over at a robot. During peak traffic. The irony is that I rode with the same cleats I use for MTB every weekend, but somehow couldn't unclip in time and ended up looking like a right tollie in front of half of Goodwood
  19. For the past week I've been telling myself that if I find another free entry coming out of the woodwork, I would take it and see if I could finish but having ridden this past weekend and realized that my un-fitness extends past that of mountain biking, the odds are that I'll make it to the end of the M3, then fall over and die
  20. Having been exclusively obsessed with MTB since I started cycling last year, this is the first time that I've paid any attention to the Cape Town Cycle Tour and I'm seeing LOADS of entries for sale in the classifieds and on other places like Facebook. Is this normal? There are new ads being posted every day, some trying to make every sent of their money back (i.e. the full R540), others literally giving it away for FREE just so that the entries don't go to waste? I would think that with only 6 days left to register substitutions, most people would be listing their available entries for competitive prices in order to at least make something back rather than waiting it out at full price and then not selling it at all, but the fact that there are so many is weird? Or is that the case every year, with the sheer volume of people entering pushing up the amount of people that fall into the small percentage that can no longer make it?
  21. Didn't think I should start a new thread for this, so I just wanted to say a massive thanks to the event organizers for a well planned enduro, all the people who made an effort to help me find my lost car keys as well as the hikers who found it and returned it to the office, and then a big thanks Calvin, Luke and Johaan for sticking with me up and down the mountain. You guys rock!
  22. Well hello there... Do you come here often? ...Would you like to? https://www.instagram.com/p/BfQcN7HFJ2z
  23. I'm yet to upload a pic of it, but I visited family in Auckland this past December and picked up a Garmin Fenix 5 Sapphire for NZ$ 789 (ZAR 7033) from Noel Leeming during their New Years sale. Super stoked! It's a good R3000 cheaper than Takealot sells it for. Matter of fact, you struggle to get a second hand one for that price Makes my old TomTom Runner 3 Cardio look like a sundial
