  1. I have to admit that I'm extremely bad with my stretching regime, most times I shortcut my training by giving up my stretching and I realise that is probably the reason why I have ITB issues. That said I doubt my hammies are to short as I'm able to reach about 8cm over my toes. I will however try proper rest for the next 2 weeks
  2. Thanks, I've heard about the foam rollers as well. I'm going to see if I can get some today as I'm willing to try just about anything to get rid of this condition
  3. No, I've been cycling for 7 years and I was cycling about 6 days a week from October last year up until the Argus with Zero issues and absolutely pain free. I however focussed allot on my strength training in gym during winter and only did mountain biking on a Sunday for 3 hours
  4. HI All, I've was diagnosed with having ITBS by a physio about 2 weeks ago. I went for treatment, she also asked me to do stretches as well as lunges for 2 weeks, which i did 90% of the time. I then went for a ride on Sunday and at 70 km i was unable to continue due to the ITB pain. I also had a Ergofit bike setup done a while back and I had this checked again to verify that something wasn't wrong with the setup. We then found that I had 1 too many wedges in and the extra 1 was removed. I need some advice on getting over this very frustrating condition? I'm also supposed to be doing my 1st DC but with this problem i doubt i'll be ready for it...
  5. I had the ErgofitMax done with Renay which included using flexibility testing where my riding style, etc was taken into account. What he then did was stick me on the bike and checked the angles at the hip and knee as well as elbows. I can't complain about the results, I'm very comfortable on my current bike. The reason for this post however was to find out if I did switch to a bike with a slightly longer top tube, would I be able to get the same results, i.e., be just as comfortable on the bigger bike. I do however agree with you that the 'plug and play' methods are not always accurate, my dad also had the Ergofit done with Renay and his seat always looked to low and also felt to low for him. he recently raised his saddle 2cm and now is very happy with the bike. To answer some of your questions above, I'm a healthy 31 year old male with a blend of chunky and muscled but working on getting lean. I used to ride just for fun but now I ride to try and win my group so I can improve my seedings.
  6. They recommended a 105mm stem. Yes, my buddy bought a 54 and when I got on it, it felt very comfy. It really didn't feel much bigger than mine.
  7. It's the specialized tarmac geometry: http://www.specializ...09&sid=09Tarmac
  8. I had the Ergofit done and according to the Ergofit measurements I should have a 53.7cm top tube which is exactly I currently have. I've sent Renay an email and he replied saying that I can get a shorter stem. Its not as ideal as sticking to my current bike size but it shouldn't hinder my performance. My current stem is 100 and I should have a 105 according to the Ergofit measurement; I'm therefore assuming that the bigger top tube shouldn't be a problem? I'm also reasonably flexible, I can reach about 10cm past my toes
  9. Thanks Eugene. The specialized that I currently have is a 52 with a 53.7cm top tube and the one I'm looking at is 54 with a 54.8 cm top tube
  10. Hi All, I'm contemplating purchasing a 54 road bike with the top tube being 54.8cm however, when I did the ergofit bike setup it has my top tube has 53.7cm. My question is, how would this disadvantage me if any? If I used a shorter stem would this compensate enough for it? My height is 173 which according to the sizing chart means I have to ride a 54? Please let me know.
  11. I'm down from 87 - 80 kilos mainly due to the month of fasting and me increasing my cycling training from 1 Sunday MTB ride to 5 times a week on my road bike during the fast. My aim is to be around 73-75 kilos. I'm only 173 but a reasonable amount of muscle. I'm not a pro cyclist and don't aspire to look like one . I enjoy my weights training just as much as my cycling and the ladies certainly appreciate the biceps
  12. Thanks for this post!! I thought there was something wrong with my heart or something prior to reading this post. I would go from being reasonably strong and fit to being completely weak and I never knew what caused it, it also lead me to become very frustrated! I've been using AH for the last 2 years but recently tried stopping it which worked fine until I went up to knysna to do the MTB race. I was then forced to use the AH and I had the worst possible race and the week prior to that I was super strong. This happened again in my training ride yesterday where I just couldn't get my heartrate down and it was also the first day that I used the AH again... has anyone of you tried the natural alternatives that's sold at health shops and dischem?
  13. Is anyone welcome? My dad and I did 1 ride with the team last year and really enjoyed the ride! What kind of distance are you guys doing?
  14. I really hope that's not the case with these, I really like these wheels!
  15. Not entirely sure of total kms, I bought it from another hubber in November, according to him he did about 1000km and I've since done about 1500km.
  16. Personally I think this guy was exploiting cyclists, charging crazy prices for minor repairs. I think he thought it would be a quick clean and lube and off I go. Its only after attempting it for the 3rd time did he then think to check the plaws!!
  17. Thanx for the reply guys! The bike mechanic at Jubilee checked it out yesterday, cleaned it out and sprayed it with lube but still didn't help. He then checked the pawls and showed me the one was broken
  18. Excellent, I needed to confirm before I place the order. Is there anything else that could've caused it to cease up? The reason I ask is I don't want to buy the freehub if it is something else.
  19. Hi All, During the Argus cycle tour yesterday, by freehub seized up which resulted in me riding a fixie for 70 kms (Not my greatest cycling experience ) . I had a mechanic in Simon's town check this out for me and told me it's a result of one of my pawls in the freehub being broken. My question now is, do I just need to buy a freehub body to get this corrected? will the pawls be included with the new freehub body? The reason for the questions is I want to buy one from Chain reaction cycles as there replacement body is R290 + R55 shipping, as opposed to my LBS who quoted me around R600 - R700. Thanks guys,
  20. Would've been awesome to ride with the big boys, unfortunately I'm doing the Argus MTB
  21. My seeding has dropped from N to M after doing the 99er! Not much to rave about but its a start in the right direction after being on a tandem the last 4 years. Looks like ill be racing medallion and Bay City if i want to improve my seeding a bit more.
  22. A big thank again!! [/url] http://www.thehubsa...._gopid__1329198
  23. After only 7 months of training? Congrats!!! That's really awesome!
  24. Hi All, I would just like to thank Maryke for the wonderful program that she's drawn up for me! I've been following her program for the last 14 weeks and the transformation in my cycling has exceeded my expectation by miles!!!! I did the 99er this past weekend, placed 5th in my group and did around 3h35 and when I was done I had massive amounts of energy left. I'm convinced that if I was in a faster group I would've been able to do around 3h20 if not better. I know for some this might not seem like that great a time, but considering my best time in the Argus in the last 6 years was 4h11 this is a MASSIVE improvement!! I did a group ride on Sunday after the 99er, with my old Tjommies club and these guys couldn't believe i was so strong because I was always the weak rider in the club, esp. after doing the 99er the day before! I also did Die Burger and when i got my tyre burst I was on a 32km/h average and that was after only 5 weeks on the program, prior to that the fastest average I could manage was 28 km/h! I'm so excited about my cycling right now and look forward to continually getting stronger and hopefully being strong enough one day to ride with the A group riders/ Durbanville Roadies!! So for anyone looking to improve their cycling, especially the 'average' cyclist like me, please give Maryke a shout for assistance. My dad has been working with her program for the last week and already noticed the improvement when he did the 99er. Thanks again Maryke, if I could give you a hug and kiss to thank you personally, I would!!
