  2. Finally got to th bottom of the creak.I must say I was surprised at what I found. The grease which I had used on the seatpost was no the correct one for the frame & this resulted in a creak which was transfered down the top tube & came out of the head tube. All that was done was the deat post was de greased & then greased with another type of grease & presto - it was gone!
  3. Hi Guys. Dont know if anyone can help me on this one as a creak is giving me grey hairs. I have just built up a niner emd & have done a handfull of rides on the bike. The problem I have is when I get on the bike & pedal even on a flat surface a creak comes from the head set/head tube area.It comes & goes. I have changed the starfish washer, ghrease all the parts in the headset & made sure that the head set is seated properly. The headset is a Pro 1/18 sealed bearing.I have tigtened the stem cap with a torque wrench but still there is a creak. My next thought is that the frame may be flexing? Any suggestions on this will be appreciated. Thanks guys
  4. I agree it is on the expensive side, especially if it is a new brand.I reckon you could sell them for around R8500 - R10000 as a GT Avalanche1 goes for around this price
  5. i am also keen to join!

  9. Hey Guys I am not too sure what the best drink is to use while riding.I have tried a few like Biogen & Gu energy drink.I do not want to spend a fortune but will be doing a lot of riding over the next 3 months. What suggestions are there?
  10. HEY GUYS WITH THE BIKE JACKING & MUGGING ON THE RISE,I THOUGHT WE SHOULD START A THREAD WHERE FELLOW HUBBERS CAN SUGGEST SAFE PLACES TO RIDE & PLACES TO AVOID & EVEN POST PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WHILST IN THE SADDLE. IN MY OPINION THE TOP 3 PLACES WHICH ARE SAFE TO RIDE IN JHB WOULD HAVE TO BE: 1.RIETVLEI 2.GROENKLOOF 3.TEAKpedal pusher2010-05-16 09:45:28

  13. Hi Guys. I believe the guys from quandum do a ride every saturday morning.Does anybody do these rides or have some details for me?
  14. Well I took her for a walk today& this is what I found.I have ridden a 26' bike for the last 4 years: As I started riding I immediately felt that the steering was very responsive.I hit some tight single track first to check the rumour that 29ers are not great through windy corners. The 29er is sooo much more grippy in the corners so you are able to really throw the bike around the windy stuff & I didnt find a problem accelerating out of the corners.I now went to test her on a rocky incline. The bike climbs like a demon!Even if you dont pick the correct line you will get to the top.I also didnt experience that 'floaty' feeling on the handle bars which I did with my 26' on the rocky inclines,I suppose it is due to the longer chain stay. Next on the menu was some rocky declines.Same as the up hills- the 29' wheels roll over obstacles so much more easier. I often found myself with the elusion of riding slow until I checked the speedo-my average speed was 25km/h with out trying to hard. The one negative I did find(due to being a softie) is that once the legs get tired it does get a bit harder to turn those big wheels around. I can now understand why so many people who have moved away from 26' will never return.
  15. What is the best is the best pressure to run on a 29er? On my 26' I found 2.2bar the best for dirt & would go to around 3.5 for the road. What do you guys suggest?
  16. I got a good deal on the EMD frame. The EMD is also only slightly heavier than the Air9.The EMD tips the scale at 3.5 LB while the AIR9 is 3.1LB. Couldnt really justify spending much more for that difference.Although I must say the scandium frame must have a real nice feel to it & the welds on scandium are always really strong too.pedal pusher2010-05-07 06:03:44

  19. my order from CRC came in 2 seperate parcels & the chops from customs charged me double VAT.endless phone calls, grey hairs & running around to sort this out.
  20. Ok that is great news.Sorry for the false alarm.
  21. All is sorted out now,was a mix up with contact numbers & so forth.I will admit I was abit hasty with the post, but in todays world one can't help but panic & be paranoid especially with all the stories floating around. Sorry Kiwi & the rest of the Planet -x team! Keep up the good service!
  22. Hey guys I know this has probably been answered a million times, but I am looking for any advice on buying from CRC. I am looking to buy & wheelset & some other goodies to around the value of R3500. What is the whole process once the purchase has been made online?how does customs & vat work?Where does the parcel get delivered to?How long does it take etc.... This old dog is battling to learn new tricks.. Thanks guys.
  23. It is a large frame(20").I will give the exact weight as soon as the bike is done. The light weight components include a Specialized Reba 120 fork with a carbon crown & steerer,Ritchey WCS straight handle bar & stem,Rotor compact crank & a mix of Sram XO & Shimano XTR components.Hope hoops have been fitted.
  24. Hey Guys We have set this beauty up for Sani2C & are now going to be cutting down on more weight for the Epic. The whole drive train will be replaced as well as the handlebar, stem, crank & hubs. the dual sus 29er should be around 9.5 - 10 kgs at the end.
