  1. Hey guys, hope everyone is doing lekker, Okay, I want to get myself a new bike and I think I have found the one. The only thing that scares me, is the fact that it will be a long distance deal, so I want to know from you guys: - Does any one know the seller or can vouch for him? - Is there anyone close to his area who can go and check the bike to make sure it is all the real deal? Link to ad: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/255267-pyga-pascoe-m/ It is a lot of money to move and I am saving up to get engaged and married to my amazing yet surprisingly supportive girlfriend so this can't go wrong or else I will be running on the track with my tekkies, that is the closest I will get to mtb'ing for a long time. Thanks a lot!
  2. Yeah that can happen but you can easily prevent that from happening too. I have been using one on my Ford Figo, I just wrapped the little hooks that clip on with electrical tape, the pressure ones not the sticky shiny ones they stick down like a bomb and provide very nice protection and grip too. My car doesn't show any signs of bike rack abuse. As far as warping the metal goes, you really don't need to fasten the straps down that much just make sure they are solid and not wobbly. I was also very skeptical about this at first, spoke to my uncle who has been using a boot rack on his Audi for 6 years and he doesn't have any of these problems mentioned. Sure, they can happen and will most likely happen but if you just take the time and make a few tweaks you are good to go.
  3. Thanks for the advice, taken to heart and will rather get a bike later on. Thanks a lot and to everyone who has replied!
  4. I won't be going for the fork, decided to rather just calm down and save money or try to upgrade the entire bike and get a new second hand one. Thanks for all the input guys, I have learnt a lot!
  5. I want to reduce the travel on the fork from 150 to 130. But I was thinking my best bet is to just ask a shop if they can order and so on.
  6. Haha now you all got me confused but it does seem like it is a 650b fork, but I did google and most where 26" but I just realized this is from the looks of thing the 2014 model and it does have a 650b and most articles are about the 2010-2012 ones.
  7. Look at this fork: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/298337-fox-fit-32-talas-adjusts-130-150mm-ctd-650b/
  8. Hey everyone, Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some Fox Talas Travel Spacers or any other alternative functioning product? I know you get those Fox Clip-On Travel Spacers to adjust the fork’s travel but where? Thanks
  9. Giant ditched the OD2 in 2015 and only started making the Stance in 2015. Already measured the top tube of the fork tube to double check it is a normal tapered fork tube, thank goodness.
  10. Think I might just save up money and buy a 650b specific fork later on. Thanks for the replies.
  11. Already did some research regarding the travel and the frame will handle 140mm easily some of the people run 150mm too but I will set it to 130mm I think. And buying a 150mm fork is sort of like buying for the future, I will upgrade my frame next and so on. Sell parts and buy new second hand parts sort of work out cheaper, upgrade piece by piece.
  12. The real question now is, will 2.3 - 2.4 tyres have clearance in the fork?
  13. Awesome thanks man, yeah I have quite a few Rapide products I just need to know if it will all work nicely together. And jip I know it is for 26" but I have been looking for a fork and this is best deal so far.
  14. Hi guys, Okay so hopefully I can get this sorted before the fork sells. I want to buy a new fork, I just want to know will the Rapide hub that I will link work if I rebuild my current wheel on it? Or can anyone please link me a front hub that I will need to buy to fit onto my current front wheel to run this fork? Rapide hub: https://www.rapide.co.za/product/rapide-ultralight-pro-front-hub/ Fork I want to buy: https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/298337-fox-fit-32-talas-adjusts-130-150mm-ctd-650b/ Fork and wheels I currently have just scroll down to the details everything is still stock on the bike: https://www.giant-bicycles.com/za/stance-27dot5-2-2015 If that Rapide will work is it a good choice or are there better / safer options? Thanks a lot guys
  15. Coming back to mountain biking after 2.5 years out of it due to an injury and then life. I have always wanted to do enduro and here I am, starting my journey. Got the bike Giant Stance 2 off bikehub from an awesome member, fitted some new parts, DHF and DHR tyres, 1x10 convo with Zee rear mech and shifter, XT crankset, Rapide HiRise 780 bars with a 50mm stem and Crank Brothers Stamp 2 flats. Waiting for Rapide to get dropper posts and will then get a 30mm stem too. Getting there!
  16. Starting out with enduro, got me this little puppy. Fitted new DHR and DHF tyres, Rapide 780 HiRise bars and 50mm stem replacing it with a 30mm stem as soon as Rapide get dropper posts back in stock. 1x10 convo with the Zee mech. I have had this bike for a few weeks, only got to ride it today. First I had to get it up and running and wait for parts then I had to remove my big toe nails because they were growing in too much, so with my toes feeling okay I had go at it around the hood today and it is awesome!
  17. Plugs & Tools CO2 Bomb with adapter Spare valve Tube Small pump That is what I would recommend well at least if you want to save on the weight and space. The other recommendations are fine if you are into carrying all that stuff, have been going with my setup for quite a while and it has never failed me yet and if it does it just wasn't meant to be on that day.
  18. Hey everyone, Just going to leave this here and recommend Singletrack Cycles in Six Fountains / Silver Lakes https://www.singletrack.co.za/home to anyone. I took my bike in to have a few things done and I am very happy with the friendly and good service. Here is a list of why I think they are pretty neat: • Friendly and good service • Prices on services and maintenance for bikes is pretty good in my opinion, cost me +/- R850 to fit new tubeless tyres, buy a new 10 SPD SRAM chain, fitted my rear mech, shifting cable and housing, tuned my gears, dialed my suspension and washed my bike. The chain was R400 (SRAM PC 1071) and the tubeless setup was R350 (Stans), so +/- R100 bucks for the labor is a freaking bargain I must say. I am super happy with this shop and it is going to be my new LBS in terms of bike services and maintenance and some odd parts here and there, the okes are very nice that work in the shop and also know what they talking about. Very nice!
  19. Okay, nevermind it will work. My internet is out so I decided to google on my phone and found this: http://forums.mtbr.com/giant/question-putting-xt-cranks-fsa-equipped-giant-stance-965166.html Let's hope for the best.
  20. The silver crank is a Shimano Hollowtech 2 and the black crank is a FSA Dynadrive.
  21. Hey guys, so I got a brand new second hand bike off the hub and I want so swap out some parts. But this is my first ever crank removal and install. The silver cranks (Shimano XT Hollowtech 2) must go on the new bike that has the FSA press fit BB and the black cranks must go on the old bike, can I just swap these cranks? The black cranks have a little spacer on them does this need to be transfered to the silver cranks? Because i measured both BBs and the press fit BB is a very little amount shorter than the other is that what the spacer is for? I will upload pics too.
  22. Hmmmm, it might be the right size. If you are 1.8m tall you can definitely ride a 17.5", 100% correct nothing wrong with that. 1. It is normal for riders to get a smaller frame if they want something more agile or nimble. 2. A bigger frame is easier to control under high speed. With that being said, going with your height = frame size isn't the only method. Use it as a guide line but not a decision maker. I for one prefer a smaller frame, I am 1,76m tall and I prefer a 17.5" and according to that chart that is smaller than recommended. If you want some reassurance if it is completely off just measure your height and your arm span, if both are the same then maybe that frame is a bit too small for you, if you arm span is less than your height by 3cm+ then maybe it won't be that far off because of your lower reach and if you arms are longer, then I would say too small. If I was 1.80m I would still prefer a 17.5" maybe a 18" not too sure, didn't really look at the bikes geometry. But maybe determine your reach and take it from there.
  23. Fun factor, trusty steed: https://www.giant-bicycles.com/za/trance-2-ge-2018 But both bikes you listed are pretty much the same thing, I just think it comes down to personal preference at this price point.
  24. I can't see to ride uphills, my back wheel keep slipping and my front wheel lift. It is if I do not have enough momentum • Put more weight on the front wheel and back wheel. Stay seated, move your self forward in your seat, might be uncomfortable but it is what it is. If you are lifting the front too much maybe try a lower gear so you have smoother pedaling instead. Also worth mentioning depending on the track, a slipping wheel and a little bit of lifting might happen here and there. This isn't even 2 minutes long, I don't know too much about climbing though. This video might help I also struggles with downhills espcially if it is very rocky. • You were / are a roadie, this comes with confidence and experience. Try looking ahead and not right in front of your wheel. I have found that with my friends and so on they aren't looking ahead so all the rocks and stuff makes the track more of a reaction time test than actual riding. Look ahead see what is coming and choose the best line. Very important. I have not fitted a dropper seat post yet, but sure it might help abit • A dropper post might not be the answer you are looking for. Dropper posts enhance already skilled riders in my opinion, only after a certain speed and height (jumps) will you really benefit from it. I am sure you can learn to go downhill rocky or not before needing a dropper post. I feel like there are certain skills you need to learn first, dropper post or not you can learn 'em. Just what I think, no pro or anything.
  25. Okay awesome, I found someone that can help me out. Thanks to everyone in here. (Just realized I was using the wrong account)
