  1. A suggestion, depending on when you are planning on doing this ride. There are loads of people travelling up for the Karoo2Coast. Enter the K2C and see if you can potentially get a lift up for the K2C (Uniondale). Ride the K2C (You end up in Knysna). Stay over in Knysna the Sunday night and start your ride from there - you are only missing out on the Plett - Knysna section, but you have done Uniondale - Knysna.
  2. I’m based in Cape Town.
  3. Looking to join a more social/non-racing DC team, if there are perhaps any available?
  4. I went from a Fox to a RS Reba, worst decision of my life. I just can’t get that fork to come close to feeling as nice and plush as the Fox did. I have had it serviced and checked multiple times, always thought there was something wrong with it. Every time I’m told everything is in order and working as it should. Definitely going back to Fox when the budget allows.
  5. Are aero extensions allowed? Just asking because I looked at the rules and they mention the below in the rules: No dropped handle bars or aero bars will be allowed. This rule will be strictly enforced and riders who fail to comply will lead to disqualification. I don't want to rock up at the race only to be told that you can't have those on your bike.
  6. I will be beyond pissed off if we loose access to the trails because of someone who thinks he does not have to abide by the rules, just because he has a "marshal" board on his handlebar. So until someone who's involved with the management/building of the trails says marshals are allowed to ride before sunrise/after sunset with lights - they need to abide by the same rules.
  7. Take the SK's. It's like extra clothes, you can take off what you have but you cannot put on what you don't have. There are sections that you will want your SK's a lot more than the little benefit the regular GK's will offer on the tar sections.
  8. Someone discussing the groupset, giving a reasonable explanation with real world examples of actually riding his bicycle. The other saying his one groupset shifts better than the other.
  9. Spoke to him yesterday. He got a puncture on the first lap (porcupine "spike") through the back tyre. Then he got another puncture on the 19th lap quite far from the start/finish, so he had to run the remaining loop back to the start/finish area. After fixing the puncture he got going again but once riding, he said his Achilles tendon was very painful, and his lower back muscles went into spasm. Attempting to run in cycling shoes while pushing a bike was obviously not a great idea. He decided to call it quits after that lap because he did not want to add another injury to his ever growing list. I'm not sure if he was in the lead at that point, could have been. Maybe somebody can confirm? He didn't train for the race and only found out about it last Wednesday.
  10. What Christie said. You can skip the R44. Take R101, left onto Elsenburg Road. Over railway crossing, right to the train station. Take the service road along side the railway line until you get to Kromme Rhee road. Take a right there and at traffic light cross over onto Bottelary Road, left at the traffic circle. Up and over Devon Valley onto Adam Tas into Stellenbosch. There is currently road works on Devon Valley road with stop and goes. I commute there daily, just use the closed off side to ride. Adam Tas can be very busy but the traffic is generally slow moving. The traffic should be much better in December.
  11. Not a gravel bike. He did it on his Canyon Exceed hardtail, setup as a monster cross with drop bars. The same bike in this article: https://www.bikehub.co.za/features/_/gear/gear-news/the-bikes-of-tour-de-braai-r6553
  12. I received an e-mail from CRC customer service stating that they are sorry for the issues with my order and that they have contacted the courier to request the return of the order. All I can say is good luck with that one. If they can't even get the delivery done, I sure as hell can't imagine how they are going to get the return done. CRC said they will contact me once the process of the return has started. It has now been 7 days and I have had no reply. I suspect this is going to take a while. I'm not holding my breath. At the same time I need to somehow get a refund from Skynet for the invoice that I pad. I suspect that I have a better chance of falling pregnant than getting my money back.
  13. I gladly pay the VAT, twice. Their service is brilliant. Bought loads of stuff and use my AramexGlobalShopper account. Their service is brilliant.
  14. They are beyond useless. I have given up. Delize was the first person to contact me (via e-mail) that my package has arrived. Some two weeks later I finally get an invoice from another person, promptly paid, and sent through proof of payment. It has now been almost two months since my order was placed and paid for express shipping. Numerous phone calls (including the airport branch), more than 20 e-mails later, still nothing. This after they actually confirm in e-mail that the package will be released. I'm still waiting. I have now e-mailed Chainreactioncycles and told them to cancel my order and ask their useless courier "partner" to return the package to them, as they are clearly not interested in delivering it to me. I also want a full refund. I'm awaiting their response.
  15. I don't think i've dealt with a more useless bunch than Skynet ever before in my life. Placed an order on the 20th of November and paid for Express shipping. Package arrived in SA on the 23rd. Received an e-mail from Skynet on the same day telling me that formal customs clearance is required because the value exceeds R500. Send ID details, etc. Still haven't receieved my parcel after eventually getting invoice for the duties payable on the 10th of December. Paid next day. I have stopped counting the amount of e-mails sent between myself and Skynet. They told me last week the parcel would be released. Nothing a week later. Another mail sent, reply with parcel will be released. Still nothing. What a useless company. Have no words.
