  1. You started but ok then. Your favourite mountain bike rides in SA? I'm interested to know if I'm missing out on something?
  2. Haha. Did I hit a nerve? And yes, I always drink when I rant and rave. Maybe you should use that university education and impeccable grammar of yours to have an opinion on my opinion instead of just griping? That is, after all, why I posted it...
  3. No man, that's not what I'm getting at. Just because we have lots of well run multi day endurance events doesn't mean we are the mtb center of the world. There are quiet a few other places that have done much more for mountain biking and have far better trails than we have have. Minnar and stunder would probably agree, in fact I saw minnar in an interview saying that whistler has the best trials in the world. What's the big deal with me disagreeing with AM's statement? Yes i have ridden some good trails in sa but I think there is loads of potential for better.
  4. Are you trying to ask me a question or is your grammar just bad?
  5. Yip, seriously. If events like the epic are you're thing that's cool. But the quality of the mountain biking trails in wales are far superior than anything in SA. Swansea and cape town not a relevant comparison here - I'm talking mountain biking not cities.
  6. Well, its not as embarrasing as mr mcleans ignorant comment.
  7. Crap. Typo's happen when you rant and rave after a few drinks.
  8. Watching supercycling - andrew mclean recons south africa is becoming to mountainbiking what hawaii is to surfing?! WTF am I missing something?
  9. My older model juicy 5's where relativley high maintenance - did a lot of bleeding. It may be worth your while to buy the syringes and learn how to do the bleeding yourself. I gave them an overhaul a few months ago, put new pistons in and now they are as good as new again. Saved me buying a new set... For now. You can buy the dot fluid at a motor bike shop. Cheaper for a decent size bottle.
  10. I was just thinking that something like this would be the only solution. Doesn't matter how much we duscuss manners and etiquette- dog walkers, mountain bikers runners, grannies etc can't all share 1 trail. It will never work. Besides its not that great a trail anyway. We need to build our own trail. And like you say there is lots of potential to build a fun line all the way from standard road down the hill, and more places as well. Who has put the proposal forward and do they need help? Ill be there!
  11. Something tells me I'm going to be in the minority at sani - Riding in baggies on 26inch wheels. :-)
  12. Ya I know, but I was having a look at CRC last night and if you add the duties and tax on it comes about the same as what you would pay here?
  13. Ya, just bought a pair of these from FP. They look ok.
  14. I've been struggling to find decent mtb at any of the LBS's around jhb. Liked the look of the hoss stuff but couldnt find my size. Fox is a bit too pricey. Generally the LBS's are short on range or just tights! Any suggestions? Am I going to have to go with CRC?
  15. Agreed, the 4x4 logic is completly daft. I always get out out the way for guys coming down the hill. They are having more fun than me. That's what mountain biking is about.
  16. I have an on one 456. Love it. I don't think the guys who where bringing them in to SA are doing it anymore. Just order thru the uk website. Great frames for the price you pay.
  17. Yip, I did it. Unfortunatley I have to disagree with most of the posts. I thought it was probabaly the most boring 2 days of mountain biking I've ever ridden. I think they promised us amazing riding/singletrack? Other than a couple of challenging climbs it was mostly just farm road! I felt ripped off. Now I see why everyone is buying 29ers. That wasn't mountain biking. Won't be back next year.
  18. I decided to conduct an experiment: Use local bike shops/suppliers for what should have been a simple upgrade of a groupset and wheels etc for my sani2c machine. What a mistake! Chainreactioncycles would have been quicker, cheaper and with less risk of mistakes. I would have thought that local guys would understand their competition and would make more of an effort with clients to make things more convenient and easier at least (cant do much about competing with the crc prices). Unfortunalety I was repeatedly let down, late deliveries, no deliveries, wrong parts (maybe my mistake, but dont think i would have made it if i had ordered thru crc), false promises and very little effort to make things write when they went wrong. The latest shoddy service was cycle lab fourways. In desperation to get my bike finished and on the trails again I went to them to order the final component. 3 weeks have now passed and the guys cant even tell me if the couriers have picked it from the distributors in cape town. I was originally told it would arrive 'next week' and then 'next week' again. I could have ordered the same part 3 times over from crc in northern ireland in the same amount of time! Now i have to order from another shop who will place the same order from the same distributors, they recon it should take 4 days - lets see how this turns out. Local bike shops need to up their game. I'm sticking with chainreaction from now on.
