  1. So, then, explain to me, why is a gravel bike not allowed in a mtb national event? Or, why is a mtb not allowed in a CX event? [of course not apposite to SA]
  2. That is how mountain biking [and road cycling] started ...
  3. Yes.
  4. It can never be a true gravel championships if mountain bikes are allowed in the race. Mountain biking has its own xc and marathon championships; surely, a gravel championships, exclusive to gravel bikes is what CSA should investigate? The same goes for mountain bikes in sanctioned road races: not allowed.
  5. Details please of SA agent?
  6. Where are they available????
  7. Pity it is so short ... Not worth to drive all the way to Wellington for a ride that will last no longer than 1:30.
  8. Trans Karoo is back on, organized by PPA.

  14. That "straight down" downhill is called "The Mineshaft" - rode down there in a WC race in 2004 ...
  15. Try out Rockets/Medac. You can buy ready-made or you can have a pair custom-made for you. I have been riding with them for close to a year now and rate them extremely high.
  16. I have been testing the Continental X-King 29er Protection version for Conti for the past couple of weeks and have to report that they seem to have solved the problem many riders experienced last year with knobs tearing off the tyre. I rode them in all kinds of conditions [except mud] - rocky terrain, hardpack, sand - and they performed extremely well. Normally, I would run the X-King front and the Race King on the back, but they could not get the Race King to me on time. There are scores of reviews on the www on the Contis and ultimately, I believe it is very much a personal thing when it comes to tyre choice. The sidewall on the Protection version is EXTREMELY tough and even at low pressures [1.4 bar] [i weigh 69kg] I never suffered a sidewall cut. A word of caution though: before you mount the tyre to the rim, give it a thorough wipe/wash with meths, just to clean a dirt/silicone and other junk that may have collected in the factory. Then add a generous helping of SLUDGE, inflate and you are good for the Epic.
  17. 2.38.? somewhere in the 90s. Fisher Pro Caliber, non-slicks, standard mtb gearing at the time. I think I was 20th over-all in the A Bunch [for what it's worth]
  18. I've never been compared to a diesel engine, but I'll take it as a compliment ...
