  1. I feel really sorry for customer service staff at Vitality. Judging from the Facebook ratings and feedback they're taking a beating. A good review for now Vitality stands out like a sore thumb. Seems that the Vitality staff have taken it upon themselves to give themselves a 5-Star rating. http://i65.tinypic.com/15hd5p5.jpg

  3. Ahaha. I climb around 1000m in 25km in my extended commute from Zoo Lake to Roodepoort. If you pick the right route Jo'Burg is anything but flat

Scottburgh does not have adequate infrastructure for an event of this size. I don’t see any way that the organizers or the community can improve matters further. No matter what they do, the distances involved and the congestion caused by all the riders, supporters and vehicles is going to be inconvenient Sure it’s a ball-ache to carry 3-days’ worth of kit in black bags while pushing a bike to a parking lot 500m away from the finish, but I’ve also just endured almost 300km of cycling. So carrying a plastic bag certainly isn’t the toughest thing that I’ve done that day. I really like Gnarly’s suggestion of issuing riders with 100L Sani branded bags. I saw some pretty cool looking W2W bags that some of the riders used. Hell. I’ll gladly pay an extra R1000 or so for a Sani Bag over-and-above the standard (awesome) goodies. I’d then get some sweet Sani2c mission patches that I’d sew onto my bag! I can grab my bag from my black box, pick-up my finishers shirt, have a beer & burger and then pedal a couple of hundred meters to the vehicle with my kit on my back

Agreed. Awesome Venues, Unlimited food & drink, Free Wi-Fi, Amazing kit & Almost no congestion on the trails. I’m pretty sure that the staff would gladly have heated-up the eggs if they were asked?

This was my first Sani & stage race. My total time was around 16½ hours on the 26” with flats (Race) How the hell do they manage to get the logistics & catering for 4500 divas so right? Wow! The track, food, kit, water points, toilets, etc exceeded our wildest expectations We were privileged to ride with some really cool people in N, K & L batch. I hope to ride with them again in upcoming races

Yep. I noticed that this weekend when I took the bike for a shakedown. I asked the LBS for Ardent's on the front but he was out of stock so he fitted Crossmark. I pretty much blew the last of my budget on the new tires so we'll see how this pans out during the race.

Oh boy. I hope that the route dries out a bit before Thursday. My brand new set of Crossmark’s seem to have a slight issue with traction.
  10. I’m saving about R600 per week on Diesel. The odd Uber sets me back about R200 per week so I have a Net saving of about R400 a week. The only problem is that my damned car battery keeps running down from underuse. I recently had to replace my battery and that set me back by almost 3-months.

Considering that this is my first Sani (And 1st proper stage race) I’m freaking out just a bit
  13. My mate & I did it 3-times in April. The only thing you need to worry about it your technical skills when doing high speed descents. Make sure you have cash for the parking and post-ride-beer at Berlouri Farm
  14. This thread has been hugely entertaining. It has highlighted that certain riders certainly have lost their manners along with the ability to overtake: We went for a coffee on the freezing Spruit at the Trailhead on Sunday morning. (Those breakfast ciabattas are awesome). Even with the cold the Spruit was pretty busy. As we were heading back towards Delta we approached a family that was doing a slow jog. When we were about 30-meters away a kid came belting down past the pylons on his MTB towards the joggers. This kid literally had two tracks to choose from and the width of a rugby field to pass on the right yet he bore down on the family whilst screeching “TRACK!” until his little voice broke. As the family scattered the runt passed through their group without braking and barked “TRACK!” again for good measure We passed the family as they were regrouping and muttered our apologies for that one idiot that spoils it for everyone else. If people act like this on the Spruit can you imagine how much fun they are during a race?
  15. Hehehe! This happened to me at the Delta Dash. The Affies cycling team was doing two laps for every one of mine. Imagine hearing "Passing right. If we can. Thank you" Twelve times during an event. Damn those kids are fast (And friendly).
  16. “TRACK!” So that’s what people are yelling at me on the Spruit? I always hear “CAT!” and slam on the brakes to avoid running over a feline. This changes everything.
  17. Thanks for the invite but I'm doing Breedts+ on Saturday and Monday. When I'm back from the Sani I'll definitely join you guys on Buffels!
  18. I commute daily and ride for fun on the weekends. The problem is that since I started commuting I found more-and-more excuses to NOT ride on weekends. To counter this I entered a couple of stage races such as the Cradle Trophy, Sani, etc to motivate myself to spend quality time in the saddle on weekends (I’m eyeing the Dr Evil later this year) Since I have a clear goal to work towards I look forward to the longer weekend rides and push myself further every time I cycle
  19. This was our first Delta Dash and we had a great time. The marshals were awesome and the vibe was great. I was passed a couple of times by some seriously fit guys with fixies. We only had one issue and was with the team in a gazebo adjacent to ours. They were a friendly bunch of kids but when they packed-up they left used tubes, flyers and wrappers where they’d parked. Will definitely be taking part again next year!
  20. This is a seriously cool idea. We’ve been threatening to visit Dullstroom for a MTB weekend for a while now but the cost of accommodation is usually a deal breaker If you can convince some of the pub/restaurant owners to install some bike racks for hungry and thirsty riders it would be awesome
  21. Kings is a bastard. Haven't ridden there in a while. Have the trails been changed/upgraded at all since they've reopened?
  22. Hello and welcome. Jo’burg is a big place. Here’s some of my regular routes: Thaba Trails in the South of Joburg have a couple of routes depending on your skill level. I think the Green route is about 17Km and gives you an elevation gain of 300m+. 3-Laps get you close to 1000m ascent Heya Safari/Hero Adventure park in the Western side of Joburg also has a couple of solid climbs but you’ll have to pay a conservancy fee, a ride fee and deal with shocking service from an overpriced restaurant afterwards if you’re looking for a meal/drink

Bloody hell. I’m hoping to finish the Sani before cut-off and you’re going for a quick Maluti beer at 2874m before the race.
  24. Slightly off topic (And I know that it has been discussed before) The sticky adds from AutoStyle under the Computers, GPS & HRM are painful to read and remind me of 3rd rate scams on Gumtree: WE AGENTS GARMIN & THULE. 7 DAYS JHB GARMIN, THULE, BIKE RACKS, ACCESSORIES, 7 DAY KZN It's a small thing but can't those posts be edited so that they look a bit more professional?
