  1. Crown Cycles on Landsdowne Road Claremont [opposite the Mica]
  2. edited ! SB
  3. Maybe you're a Race organiser and you want to plot save and share a route, with distances, water points, start, finish etc. etc. and allow entrants to view it in a format larger than a phone or GPS screen ?
  4. Check out MapStudio's MyRoute application www.myroute.co.za - Allows you to register for FREE, draw and save your routes with time, descriptions & waterpoints. Currently for runners, but I tested the cycling section traced a route to the Blockhouse and it worked pretty well. See image attached
  5. If your bike is insured, then your normal household / bike cover should cover this. I had a huge wipe-out 2 years ago and mutual and federal, paid for e replacement saddle & new helmet. no questions asked - might be worth a try ?
  6. Crossmark & stick it on the back! Other good combo's are Rocket Ron's on back Kenda Nevegal on the front. Rule of thumb Knobbly 'Tractor' on the front, smoother thinner on the back - Good luck
  7. Hello good people Today is the first post of my social media campaign, following my progress on the Spine of the Dragon mountain bike venture. Very simply, my bud Steve Thomas and I will be leaving Beit Bridge in a week's time, headed for Cape Point some 50 days and 3,500 km away. You can follow the blog at http://www.spineofthedragon.co.za Today and for the next few days it will the "warming up" period where I discuss the route, the background etc. Tomorrow, for instance, I will be inviting the entire SA mountain biking fraternity to help us fine tune our route. You are also invited to ride with us, at any stage, but hopefully at least the area around where you live. Then lastly, for now, we'll be doing our damndest to raise as much money as we can for Operation Smile; if you don't know about it, that is one very good reason at least to check out what we are doing http://www.spineofthedragon.co.za/index.php/ride-for-smiles/ Please send these links on to anyone who you think might be interested. For the next while I'll be reminding you on e-mail each time I make a posting, but best to follow us on facebook, where we'll be running a whole mountain biking media show. kind regards and ride easy db David Bristow 21 Windermere Rd Muizenberg 7945 Cape Town, RSA land line 021-788-5013 tel (mobile) 083-267-5891 skype: eardsdtapper
  8. Have ridden one for 3 years now, 100 milers, argus, 24 hrs, hell and back, tokai etc etc. it's a dream and hard as nails. After 3 years riding an average of 7 to 8 hrs per week apart from services [one major per year] only the XT bottom Bracket has been replaced, and the headset last month. keep it clean, and this thing will run forever. has survived 5 small & one mega crash, and still going strong. but be warned it's not 'plush', its a hard ride, but loves climbing... wouldn't change it for the world... except maybe a carbon zaskar !!
  9. I've used the Holdfast extension [the longet one they make] with a Thule 4 Bike rack for 3 years and clocked lots of mileage with 3+ bikes on the rack. Lots of flat tar and bumpy gravel, and they are safe and reliable and don't rust. But don't pull a tailer etc with the extension. Good cheap solution !!
  10. Hope Vision 1 Led, and see CWC has them for R1100...F*%*%90, I paid R1750 for the same light in Dec 09 from Epic. Nice light, 3hr burn on full and fine for daily early morning rides. With a R2000 budget buy 2, you won't be sorry!!
  11. Ouch! I chewed tar 6 months ago, 3 months off the bike to recover from a broken collar bone & wrist. got back on the MTB in November, nice and slow and riding the Argus next week. Take it slow, don't rush, after a month I missed the bike, after 2 was angry as hell that I couldn't ride, by month 3 I realized I needed to heal and get back on when I was ready. Agree helmet saved my life for sure, split in half but took the hit well, and it was 'nogal' a 10 year -old Cratoni
