  1. Thanks for your replies guys, I didn't get any notification for some reason. Anyways, my brother has been told he will just have to pay import duties (the 30% number I believe). Obviously a favorably valued receipt would work to his advantage here... I will let you know how it worked out once he is home later in the month.
  2. Hi folks I have been through the import duties thread, but I think my question is a little different. My brother is on a working holiday in Aspen for 4 months, he has seen how cheap the bikes are there (especially 2nd hand, so we aren't concerned about warranties etc.) and asked me to find out if anyone had tried importing one when returning from overseas. We have heard rumors that you wont pay any duties/tax if the bike has been in your possession for "some time" and was a integral part of your lifestyle away from home, but rumors aren't very helpful. Anyone have any experience? Thanks! (He realises he may end up paying extra for luggage on his return flight of course)
  3. Can you post a pic from a bit further away so I can put that in perspective? Glad to hear you're ok, musta been quite a suprise!
  4. Yesterday evening I lost my phone coming down Tokai singletrack, but thanks to someone who picked it up and arranged to meet my wife to return it, I had it back in my hands within a few hours. So, whoever you were, I think my wife said Werner, thank you! You made my evening for sure.
  5. I did post this in the Tokai, NCC Downhill thread, but since it's under "events" I dont think it gets looked at much. "The Downhill Thread" seems much more appropriate. This is the link to my gallery of photos of the Race on Saturday at Tokai: www.ossum.co.za
  6. Top Drawer is what it is. Dude wrecked a car - wif hiz bear hanz! Move over chuck. nor was he killed very instantly...i dunno maybe its one of those latent accidents. like eating a knife, it only kills you later. like in the morning... I've been lurking for a while, I'm a complete noob when it comes to cycling... but this whole shoes-coming-off-and-its-relevance-to-one's-continued-existance, well, I just had to speak up :-P
  7. I got hit by a car when i was crossing Kommetjie road (yeah, I dunno how either, the sun was in my eyes ) and my shoes went flying... I wasn't killed very instantly, since that was a few years ago. I could still crawl, but the car had to be towed away
