  1. I suspect Google got that wrong. The small Lord Roberts is on private land. The real Lord Roberts passes between Romansbaai and the golf course.
  2. Let's start the 2020 thread. Who is riding? How is your training going? What is your race goal? Equipment choices? Getting to grips with maps and narratives? Advice? I'll start. Entered for first RASA. Never done a Freedom Challenge event before. Slightly worried
  3. I am in the process of moving and thought the Spruit will do for weekday morning rides. I mostly ride alone. What is the consensus regarding safety on the Spruit at the moment? Specific areas to avoid?

It made me realise that the shoes I planned on using will not work. I am very glad for that. I think the biggest value in the long rides is the mental aspect and getting used to the hands/bum/feet/back discomfort. The ride was tiring but I felt pretty good the following day, which is encouraging.

I just want a finisher's medal. First time I do anything of this sort, so have no idea how my body will respond to lots of riding and lack of sleep.

I don't feel any difference between using a dynamo hub or the standard AC hubs I normally use. Clearly there must be a difference in resistance, but for me it is is negligible.

We did approximately 240km with (I guess) about 3000m vertical. Eventual riding time was 12 hours. We stopped for my cracked rim (had to go back to his shop), breakfast and three drinks breaks. I definitely slowed us down a lot around the 160 mark. Had nothing in the legs for while.

We eventually finished around 19:00 with some help and encouragement. Thanks Carpet! I cracked a rim early in the day. The Sheriff had me going within an hour! After this ride I should change my Hub name to Humbled (by the Sheriff). He can ride!
  9. Many months ago Club 100's irresponsible behaviour nearly caused a serious accident in Cedar Road. They didn't bother to respond to e-mails or telephone calls. I regularly still see the same behaviour from them.
  10. I have been riding Spez for many years. However, the fact that I am forced to deal with stores that provide consistently poor service have turned me off the brand completely. That new Cannondale looks very good right now
  11. I cycle in the Cradle late afternoons once or twice a week. Never had a problem. Sometimes even cycle until after dark.
  12. There is currently a riot at the Kromdraai Cafe. The road from Nirox to the Caves are closed for through traffic. Might be a good idea to avoid the Cradle today.
  13. Had two bikes done at Cyclefit a few months ago. Fitted a new saddle on one of the bikes (it was time) and experienced some issues with it. The response to my problem and action taken to resolve the issue was great. Well done guys.
  14. Even when I train my first priority is to enjoy every ride. Lately I try to take a pic on every ride, just to focus a bit more on my surroundings.

Just started with a long base period with rides up to 12 hours max towards the end (just 2). Then 8 weeks of Polarised training to increase power and back to 8 weeks long rides similar to Munga "stages". Two weeks taper thereafter. That is the plan. But family, business or life in general may scupper some of my good intentions . . .
