  1. Question #1 with old French bikes; does the seatpost come out and what size is it? Question #2 with old French bikes; does the quill stem come out and ... If you get everything moving and adjusted, check cables, brakes, tyres, spokes and ride it!
  2. After i took apart my Jan Janssen racer, a lot of rust came out of the bb and chainstays, i didn't really trust that frame anymore so i talked to a friend about it and he gave me a link to a sales ad from a 1999 frame, that was only used in the showroom, just a frame and fork. I asked the seller what he wanted for the frame and whe agreed on a fair price, so now i have a good, rust free frameset; It's the type of cro-mo that you can smash a persons skull in with, but the frame stays straight... Not the light wheight kind of bike frame, but before i am so lean that frameweight is an issue... So now the frame is a bit younger, i will be using Ryde DP18 rims, Hope silver hubs and a shiny sparkling silver 105 R7000 groupset.
  3. Taped the bar and the sun came out so it was time for a pic; In about 10 mins it will be on it's first long ride! Now i can start collecting parts for my Jan Janssen racer ????
  4. It's ready! Sadly no sun to put that sparkle blue to work, but these pics will do; Shimano 105 derailleurs Shimano FC-RS400 50-34 crankset with Dura-Ace bb Shimano Ultegra 6700 brakes with Kool-Stop dual compound pads Shimano 6600 brifters (new old stock) 2x10 Shimano 6600 cassette 14-25 (because 50-14 is high enough) Ritchey 4 axis stem and Logic curve handlebar Ritchey seatpost 27,2mm Terry Arteria lady saddle Tange Seiki sealed headset Hope RS4 hubs, DT Swiss Competition spokes, DT Swiss brass nipples, Ryde Chrina rims and Shimano Deore skewers Continental GP 4 season tyres 25mm King Cages bottle cages Jagwire Cables Sigma light on a SP outfront mount with cellphone above Sigma rear light (with brake light integrated) on the seatpost Vaude saddle bag Not on the pic; Topeak pump and ESI handlebar tape, that will go on after everything is adjusted.
  5. it’s a stock Shimano FC-RS400 non-group crankset
  6. A few pages back i posted the silver & blue Jan Janssen roadbike that i purchased for my wife, it turned out te be a '97 Paris-Roubaix, made in Columbus Thron tubing and the frame was in very good condition - no dent or whatever! I asked my wife what to do with it, just make it useable or make it better then new, well i guess the answer is starting to form; The (powder)coat is iceblue over silver flake, with thickness of the blue varying over the frame, at the lugs the blue is thicker, going thinner towards the middle of the tubes. The build will be a 2x10 mix of Ultegra and 105, with Hope RS4 hubs, DT spokes and classic Ryde Chrina rims. More to come!
  7. I own a Zero Tolerance 920 and some Opinel knives in different sizes, plus a Buck packlite skinner for me and one for my wife as fishing and hiking knives. The Opinels are pretty much the workhorses here. Bought the two i use the most on a school camp in Paris, in 1997, the good old days

  9. only just as long as me, it is my size this one
  10. it’s coal actually, but thanks for the compliment
  11. It gets worse, i walked into a size 66 Jan Janssen yesterday and i picked it up today , kept the social distancing rules in check and got hold of a late 70’s Jan Janssen in Reynolds 531, with Shimano 600EX ‘Arabesque’ groupset. The shifting on the downtube not bad at all, the only thing really scary is the brakes, they will be replaced with better dual pivot style ones, i will keep all the old stuff in stock, don’t worry (the pedals are temporary for a testride, the toeclip original ones are on the workbench)
