  1. Are there any organised groups that ride to the start from Rondebosch/Obs/Mowbray?
  2. The officials in the Mazda did do pretty well to let us know about the break up ahead. At one stage they were 4:45 ahead... well done to those riders who managed to stay ahead
  3. They should neutralise all racing groups until they get to wellington street. Last year must have been an absolute nightmare… I saw in last years results that some B riders set the fastest times.
  4. I crossed the line at around 9, the wind was pretty bad by then. I was riding completely solo at that point too so it was horrible. Between 95km and 105km my average speed dropped by 3.5kph 😔
  5. Is the same start used at this race the same every year? In A batch it felt very dangerous… even with the vehicle setting pace in the neutral zone. Downhill right angle turns… deep manholes… more speed bumps than I can count. I wasn’t close enough to the front to see… but judging by the pace it also seemed like the neutral zone actually ended whilst we were still in those dangerous suburb roads… Crosswinds and pace that makes you feel like you are bleeding out your eyeballs don’t do well to keep the riders on the left lane of the road but the Marshalls did their best to keep us behaving. Well done to all of them. Not a great day out for me… I got shot out the back of the group like a chicken laying an egg with 10km to go. So close yet so far… Ended up 8 mins off the leaders and 6 mins off the group. Kudos to the guys in the breakaway they built up a good gap today, they were almost 5 mins ahead at one stage.
  6. Thank you! Need to check my emails instead of my SMS's... Awesome thanks!
  7. Sorry... excuse my ignorance but this is my first one 😅
  8. Does anyone know if A is the highest seeded group for this event? Or is there an elite group above that?
  9. @NicholasH any way we can get photos from this event?
  10. Thanks for organising a great event @NicholasH. Was really special. Great marshalling, the crowds at the waterpoints were great at cheering us along and all the school kids involved were great too! It was my first race in the elite bunch and I was worried about the size of the group but there weren't any issues at all. Having both lanes closed in the last 15km was great. And the finish line was perfectly marked! Actually being able to see it in the end gave me a massive boost of energy haha! I somehow managed 20th overall so this was by far my most enjoyable and successful day out on the bike so far! Will definitely be back next year and hopefully for many more years to come.
  11. They don't deserve the benefit of the doubt but it's a Friday so lets give it to them 😄 From everything I've seen (keep in mind I have only been racing for less than a year) yes the numbers are exactly the same, just different symbols beforehand and maybe sometimes a different colour I think?
  12. Uh... the though of paying money to CSA just makes my blood boil. This is according to WP cycling website: Happy you didn't pay them anything.
  13. Hmmm... I'm in $ and never got asked to pay anything other than my entry fee and my CSA R50 day license. I think whoever you dealt with was speaking a load of hogwash. I'd say it's worth arriving early tomorrow morning and trying to fight it at the morning registration.
  14. I can't speak for everyone else but my goal this weekend is to improve my CTCT seeding.
  15. My dad and I (52 and 22) are both in $ so % is definitely not vets
  16. Awesome thank you! Great to know that our input is being heard. Much appreciated
  17. Yep I saw those too, but would be nice to have 500m, 400m etc. boards. Like in Durbie Dash, the finish line was just over a crest so we couldn't see it until we were right over it.
  18. Awesome! Maybe a bit of a noob question but I've only completed 2 road races in my time - will there be distance markers for the last few hundred meters towards the finish line? In both the Durbie Dash and Winelands cycle race the finish line has caught the group by surprise. Was really disappointing as there could've been a good sprint to the line.
  19. Ah so sorry to hear about your experience. I’ve ordered a gravel bike from Yoeleo so if it arrives on time I may consider taking that to JHB
  20. Thank you. When you say safer than CT, do you mean the motorists or the criminals?
  21. Thank you for this, will definitely take it into consideration.
  22. Ok cool, I may just organise a lift there. Am I correct in saying the ride starts at 5AM? I’ll be joining the Thursday and Friday ones
  23. I would be just a 100 meters or so SE of that screenshot, just didn't want to put the address on the internet lol. But thanks for the suggestion - will take that on board. According to Strava heat maps a lot of cyclists ride along Winnie Mandela Drive. Should I maybe hop onto that road?
  24. Hi guys, First time posting on here, hopefully it is the right forum to ask this on. End of October I'm going to be spending 5 days in Sandton and I'm bringing the bike. I've heard there's a good group ride called Engen to Engen from Wed-Fri. I'm coming from Cape Town so a bit concerned about safety as I haven't been to JHB in 10 or so years. I've attached a screen shot of the route I'll need to take to get to the starting point. Would this be safe to ride alone before 5am? Or will I need to organize to get a lift there? Thanks in advance, Dylan
