Hey hubbers I am wanting to buy a new bike in February, I currently have a really old frame thats like 10 years old and only has a one disk brake because of the upgraded front shock. I have been looking online for the last 4 months and been trying to get myself acquainted with all the specs of these bikes and whats a good deal and whats not but its still a bit confusing. When I ride I love flying downhills which makes me want to get a dual sus but I struggle on the uphills which makes me think hard tail. Its really a difficult one for me,and when you look at the specs of the hard tail vs the Dual specs the hard tails always are much better speced. I also realise that my price rang does not really cater for the Dual sus range. If you had R12k what would you buy? Currently this is what I have been looking at new: Hard tail Scott Scale 60=R10800 Silverback spectra=R11000 Merida MATTS Lite 1000-D= R12500 Silverback Shift2=R13k Scott Scale 50=R13500 Dual sus Silverback slider= R11200 merida ONE-TWENTY 500-D=R12100 Scott spark 60=R13500 Nomad FS twenty=R13600 I know what you thinking and I am thinking it too Silverback murcury 3(2011)=R13700 This is just a rough look at a few bikes in the price range,I have been eyeing out the Silverbacks because of the really good prices for the components but the Scott bikes really look nice. Is there any bike I should add to the list or even remove? I have added links for all the bikes so you can look at the specs. Its really frustrating,I was only going to spend 8k max on a bike 4 months ago but the more I learn the specs the more the price goes up due to the better components which turns out to be worth it and from there the price has slowly climbed. Any help will be greatly appreciated as always

There are some amazing cycling videos out there on the WWW and I believe its important to show case these videos. I dont know what it is but when I watch people do amazing things all I want to do is try it. It inspires me to get on my bike again or start a new sport like freebording,my body just says to me that I have to try it. Here are some of my coolest videos I have found online from cycling. It is really upsetting when a brand or product is labeled by the price and not by the quality and this is not just done in the cycling world. As I said I am looking for a bike that is worth the price,I have 11grand and want to get a bike that I get my moneys worth and I keep going back to silverback. At the end of the day I am probable going to buy a silverback Spectra and if some snob drives passed and thinks "wow he only has a silverback" I really could not give a damn. I mean at the moment I ride a year 2000 frame that has one disk brake and one V brake.

covie(A member on the forum) calls them Bike Snobs on this forum,the Silverback is a South African made bike and has great gear,in fact I have heard of people buying whole Silverback bikes striping them down and using all the gear on a different frame because the specs are so good for the price. If you are worried about price of the Spectra look at the SB Ventura (R8,200 27 speed XT rear, SLX shifters, Shimano hydraulic brakes, SLX hollow crank, Rock Sox Reba air fork, SPD pedals) Also Bargain with them,ask them if you can get a discount if you pay cash(ask for 10%),you should be able to get the Spectra for R11200 at least. Also take both of them for a ride around the parking lot,and see what feels nicer. As I said I have been looking at bikes and although I dont want to be "Riding" a silverback because I dont want snobs to think I am cheap,its the best value for money and their frames are good so why get anything else? So I am getting the spectra at the end of the year and I am going to love it And welcome to the forum

I dont classify myself as a cyclist but I do love getting on my bike and going on a off road adventures when I have time. I dont recognise myself as a cyclist because I dont have all the equipment like cleats and shoes,I dont know all the temonology that flys around and dont really get all the specs I always read but I can maintain my own bike and replace my flats and fix them. In other words I agree,If you dont know how to fix a tier you cant be called a cyclist and if you can then I am pro.Its just like people calling them IT experts because they know how to write a word document and use Google,it pisses me off like you cant believe!

Isn't there a better spec'ed Merida at about the same price as the Spectra or any other brand that is similarly priced to the SB? The silverback does have nicer specs and is a lot more sexy I must admit..I am thinking about getting a Spectra at the end of the year. Where are you buying the bike?

I found these prices on this topic. Spectra R11200.00 Shift 1 R18000.00 Shift 2 R13500.00 How much can you get the Scott Scale 40 (2011) for? I am thinking about getting a new bike at the end of the year and been looking at the spectra,Ventura(R8,200)and the Shift 2.Covie and a few others say its the best value for money so that’s why I have been mainly only looking at SB. Any other suggestions?

I am importing a freebord at the end of the month and was wanting to import protective gear with it. Do customs calculate the fee's per item or do they take the highest % and use that? What I am importing has these custom fees- protective equipment: 20% Helmet: 25% Outdoor sporting equipment: 10%(Does a freebord fall under this? Its like a skateboard) So Will they charge me 25$% on the whole lot or will they charge me 10%,20% and 25 on each item? Also do you have to pay duties on the shipping fee? Thanks

Hey guys went to groenkloof today and had an awesome ride as usual but when I got back to my car I pulled out my iphone to turn the tracking off and put it on the roof of my car. I loaded up my bike and threw everything into the back of my car. On the way home I started feeling weird because I had not got a phone call and then realised that I did not have my phone on me,that's when it hit me I had never put my phone in the car after loading my bike up. I was highly upset that I had lost my wonderful phone and after getting home tried to call it but it was off(You know what that means ) raced back to Groenies to go find it. The Lady at the fountains gate said she had not seen it on the roof when I left so slowly drove down the road towards the Groenkloof gate,at the parks gate the man asked me why I was back and I told him I had lost my phone that I had to come look for it he then told me that a Lady found it and that she had handed it in to the office. How awesome is that someone found and iphone and handed it in that's not something that happens everyday that's for sure! Apparently the lady was ether Horse riding or hiking and came across it and handed it in. I toke her number down from the gate warden but I stupidly wrote it down wrong and am one number short, if any of you are going to groenkloof tomorrow for the try before you buy can you please try get her number for me and PM it to me her name is Nadia.If you can do that I would greatly appreciate it Unfortunately my iphone will not turn on now obviously because it went flying off my roof but I am so happy that I found it Its so good to know that there are good people out there,I am so greatfull to Nadia for finding and handing my phone in I just wish I could phone her and tell her how greatfull I am.
