  1. Crazy video this, almost had a heart attack once or twice...Animals I tell you!
  2. Its was a ghetoo conversion,I bought the bike second hand with the conversion already done. The seller did mention that he did it using a BMX tube so that if a spoke breaks or something he wouldn't have waisted on rim strips. The sealant was also green so(to my knowledge)Is not Stans and most certainty doesn't work like it! I was riding on the very rocky bit at the end where you ride down accross the stream just before the new wooden bridge and it burped all the sealant out in two places. I got home grabbed 1 tyre leaver went out side and it took me about 5 min to dismount the tube. There was a fair amount of sealing around the tube to rim but was not like you mentioned however this is probable due to using the cheap green stuff instead of stans.
  3. Today my tubless conversion burped out and lost some sealant and its grip to the side walls of of rim so I need to redo it but dont have a compressor so was suggested to me to just pump it up at the Petrol station but I need a presta to Schrader adaptor first Any one have any idea where I can buy one of these? Should a local hardware store have any or even the LBS? Might have to do a bit of phoning around in the morning
  4. Hey guys,I took the tyre off my rim and cleaned both my rim and tyre of sealant but now there is a load of hard sealant around parts of the tyre, should I rub this off or just leave it and load the sealant back in with all this mucky stuff on the side walls. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s186/splinter_watsup/IMG_0899.jpg?t=1299507390 Also should I use Stans sealant or just that cheap grean stuff for half the price? And which adapter do I need to be able to pump up a preata valve at the garage Thanks again for all the replies and future help on this topic!
  5. Hey guys Just an update,I got my second thing from hi-tec today.I spent 30 friends on a pair of V-lite hornet shoes but they couldn't get stock because of the trucker strike and their stuff being delayed in the harbour so they asked me what shoe I would like and they sent me a pair of V-lite infinity shoes! OMW they cool http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s186/splinter_watsup/IMG_0896.jpg?t=1299495415 They are trail shoes and they retail for R1099 its not a shoe I would of bought but one I always admired to have. Hey this might even get me off the bike and trail running a bit you never know. This is my second thing I got from them!I also have a pair of squash shoes still on the way Hi-tec rocks even if I only think so after I have got free stuff from them
  6. ok great,I have a Presta valve,so what adaptor do I need to buy for it to work with the garage pumps? I am currently running Kenda converted, are they no good? If I was going to ride in races I would be quite worried, the last time I went to Groenies I got like 2 punches and they would not seal.Worst of all it was right in the beginning however this could be because of my bad sealant. Thanks Mavrick, what sealant should I use? Should I spend the extra and buy stans or just that cheap green bottle? Agg I wish I had a job! I have been at home for 3 months now, waiting for a contract job to start. I should be studying my international IT exams but I am just to lazy! Going to start soon and I will feel the same way you do Its very surprising how nanny cyclist's are out in the day,you don't realise it when you working but when you off for 3 months you kind of do! I just wonder how they make their moola to do it. happy cycling
  7. The Recon is a better shock and the XT is equivalent to X9 so you not getting your moneys worth with the Meteore component wise! I would say the Venture but you can buy the spectra for R9999 last time I checked and the components are very good on that bike so if you have the spare cash check that one out. Also ride the two and see which feels better!
  8. Hey Guys Went to groenkloof this morning and had a awesome ride but right at the end i slid down a rock and my front tyre which is tubeless popped off and all the air escaped and some sealant. I was worried it was not going to pump back up but it did fine however 2 min latter it was flat again. While I was cleaning the bike I pumped the tyre up and put some soap around the rim and you could see air escaping. How do I fix this problem? Must I buy more sealant clean out the tyre and put new sealant in and then try mount the tyre again? I unfortunately don't have a air compressor and the only pump I have is a small carry one. The tyre went completely flat and I can still pump it up but so it must have quite a good connection besides the bit where it popped off. Or should I just take off the rim pump it up and then shack it from side to side until it seals? I am just worried I might not have enough sealant for this exercise. Or is there something I am missing all together? Thanks for all the info, its ALWAYS appreciated!
  9. Looks good, going to start loading it up now FRAMED-Andi Wittmann Rider profile: http://www.vimeo.com/16899323
  10. Groenkloof would be nice but stick to the dirt roads and not the single tracks I would say if you have a kid on the back. If it was just you and your Wife the single tracks would be fine but I would be a bit worried doing them with your littli on the back . The dirt road tracks are nice and the last time I went to groenies I did half of my riding on them and still had a lot of fun!
  11. Bought a gopro 960 from HThackery ,on Wednesday I paid for it and today it is in my hands(shipped from cape town to Pretoria). If you are planning on buying a GoPro I recommend you PMing him,It was great service and was so much less of a hassle than importing it from the US like I had planned at the beginning of the week. Its a great little camera by the way, even though its just a 960 I am VERY happy with the quality.
  12. Having lost an iphone at groenkloof before and getting it returned to me I have a lot of respect for you Jan
  13. Everything is back to normal and better thanks for all the tips and comments. Cheers
  14. Guys chill,I fixed it.I just had to pull the derailleur forward and tighten, but now it wont shift into the big cog(because the cable is too lose, which I can fix) If I cant and have problems I will just take it to my LBS and they can LOL and sought it out. However with all the info in this thread I am sure I will be fine at least I can shift into the first 2 gear's
  15. agg I loosend the cable to much and the derailleur popped back, now I cant seem to get the derailleur or the cable back right...agg I am in flipping IT networking,What the hell am I doing!?!? What have I done wrong now? I now feel like I should of just left it
  16. Must you first loosen your cable tension before doing this or can you just do it with the cable tight?
  17. Hey all My chain rubs against my front Derailleur(closest to me) when I am in a high gear set,is this normal and if not how do you fix it? I documented where the rubbing starts: Front Derailleur on 1(Biggest cog) Rubbing starts on the 5th gear, all the way to the smallest cog(9th gear) This rubbing is not bad in fact very light but noticeable. I don't often ride in the first gear set. Front Derailleur on 2nd gear(middle cog) Rubbing starts at 8th gear(second smallest cog) and is quite bad,it gets worse in the 9th gear. Front Derailleur on the 3rd gear(Smallest cog) Just like the middle cog,the rubbing starts on the 8th gear(second smallest cog on the back) and is pretty bad,it gets worse on the 9th gear. ______________________________________________________________ I wouldn't of thought much of it except there is NO rubbing on my low gear and in fact there is actually quite a good amount of space between the other side of the Derailleur and the chain. I can understand if it's normall if both sides(gear 1 and gear 9) did it together but since its only the higher gear surly it can be adjusted? I know that the 2 screws on top of my derailleur adjust the distance,is this where I would "fix" this problem? Or would you just leave it until it goes for its next service? I am wanting to learn to do all these kind of things by myself. I have fiddled with my front derailleur before on my older"cheaper" bike but I am more careful with my newer one.
  18. Thanks guys,I used the biggest cog method and then checked it with my old chain and was right so just went with that and seems to be right
  19. Hey guys Hi-tec the sport shoe brand that make Squash ,hiking ,tennis ,trail shoes etc. have got an amazing online campaign running here in South Africa for us South African’s. It’s almost unbelievable, there are often great online campaigns that are normally targeted only for the US for example so I really get excited when something like this comes along. The campaign they running is where you join their facebook fan page and in an application you select all your friends, you then ask your friends to join the group and if they do you get a tecaroo which is practically a virtual $. With these tecaroo’s you can buy Hi-tec gear off their virtual store.I first joined the group about 3 weeks ago and the cheapest thing was 3 tecaroo’s which was a ticket to the FEAT conference in capetown,a bag for 7 tecaroos,a pair of squash shoes for 13 friends and a lot more. When the goods go out of stock new goods are added. The more the product costs the more friends it is obviously. For example the bag that is worth 7 friend’s retails for about R199 but the Squash shoes for 13 friends is R399. The more friends you get to join the group the more things you get. Here is a screenshot of the store: http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s186/splinter_watsup/Hi-tecstorescreenshot.png How it works is simple, you go to their facebook fan page here http://www.facebook.com/HiTecSa and like the page. Once you have liked the page on the right hand side of the page click campaign and follow the online instructions. When I first joined I got 7 friends to join and got the bag, it arrived at my door on the same week. I now have 2 pair of shoes on the way(one being the M101 Squash shoes and another pair of awesome trail shoes) So trust me,there is nothing doggie about this deal besides the fact that you have to join the group. As I said I have not seen any other company here in South Africa have a great online campaign like this and I am really proud of a brand that doesn’t even do anything in IT realise how important social media really is. Note: I am not employed buy Hi-tec I am merely promoting them and their awesome campaign because I honestly think it’s a great thing they have come up with here.
  20. Hey Guys I am chaining my chain on my 9 speeds MTB and decided I would do a bit of research on calculating the correct chain length. I have found that a lot of sites have different ways of doing it and while watching youtube videos there is a lot of debate between people accusing different video creators of doing it wrong. Is the correct way to measure your new chain to run the chain along both of the largest sprockets both front and back without running it through the rear Derailleur. Then line up the chain and add 2 links and then the master link? So you giving it one inner and one outer link then breaking the link after that... Some sites use the old chain to measure up?!Others use the lowest gear at the rear the highest in the front then go through the rear derailleur then pull the rear Derailleur down to a 90 degree angle and then break the link. These 2 ways mentioned here seem to me wrong and the first I mentioned to be correct. Could anyone point me to a video this is actually right or a good article. Hub FTW
  21. False alarm It was at my local post office, they must classify the post office at the depot.I went to my postbox and got my slip and then got my goods from the counter Thanks for all the posts guys its appreciated!
  22. Glad its all fixed,Move over from IE to Chrome and from Hotmail to Gmail, you will have a lot less problems!
  23. Got a pair of oakley radar's sent to me vie USPS express dropped off at my house by SAPO about 2 weeks ago so they definitely do to the door in my area but this time I took to my P.O.BOX because of not being at home. I have had to go to the mailing center before to pick up imports, mostly because the importer didn't fill out the customs sheet properly or didn't supply the right paper work, but if it normally goes through without a problem CRC should of done it correctly. Having to drive all the way to the airport will be much more of a cost than R75 more for clearing,at least they actually do the clearing and you don't have to run around with a bunch of people who don't actually know what's going on.... End rant I will keep you updated, will call SAPO tomoz and try convince them to tell me what they know
