  1. Legs gave out proper on iron monkey. Had t climb off mid trail and release the spasms. Pushed back up and went down the entire Armageddon trail sitting, could not stand. Unfortunate, but at least finished
  2. Most of their comms and updates go out on their socials (Instagram/FB), thats where they announced the website when it launched as well. @Robbie Stewart has an account he can custodian the copying of posts into the thread
  3. Besides all the riff raff in the past few days , this is the most genuine comment on the thread i can get behind regardless of my personal opinion on the chosen trail and dismisses alot of the noise previously made. As i said in the previous message, im sure this will still be a great event for those that want to go and yes im sure there will be other rounds that cater for the other preferences. My gripe here was really all the underhanded snarky comments getting thrown around simply because some peeps opinion about the trail differed to that of the majority. The "enduro bro" sht is old and needs to get thrown out, it barely happens on trails and i see more junk about it on the hub than what exists in reality. For everyone to be lekker we need to lekker with everyone first.
  4. gotta be careful here asking for rocks, the mob might get you. but honestly, as @Robbie Stewart said it think its got to do alot with the numbers. Catering for the larger audience and making it a bring your whole family event. Which is really a great thing and all but unfortunately leaves those thirsting for abit more on the outside. watched the video last night and was quite dissapointed to hear the words "All blue trails and nothing technical". Was hoping it would at least be at the level of the previous paarl Enduro. After watching all 5 stages I decided its not worth it personally Cobra level trails are still achieveable for most and would be amazing!. one can dream. Hopefully it is a warm up event of sorts as you mentioned and hopefully it gears up drastically in the next few events. If you havent ridden one before then it may still be an idea to go to, just decide whether its worth it for your preferences or not, Im sure it will still be a great event. just unfortunately not the kind of event some of us were hoping for. Keep an eye out for the Jonkers one! that was a proper banger
  5. Yeah i know who Philip V is, big fan. Not sure what your aim was there... Im more than open to opinions and advice from everyone and anyone regardlesss of their status if they can do so maturely and respectfully. I dont disagree with any of the fitness requirements, or statements, they are all true. Even agree with @MORNE 100% about paarl, if you didnt cope there theres no chance of completeing a full day at jonkers and it was a wake up since then already to get way more fit. Doesnt mean peeps cant have opinions about which spectrum they think trails lean towards or that it warrants *** statements You dont need to know me, or know of me, not sure what your aim is there either. I dont know you or of you either besides that fact you comment ALOT on the hub. so well done i guess? agreed, end here and each to their own But food for thought, if we dont want negativity then maybe we dont feed it with trailing comments
  6. Appreciate the first mature response For sure there is no doubt that you do need lungs.. not what was said. Said its shouldnt JUST be about having a stuk pair of lungs and ofcourse having good bike skills is going to make you faster all round. These are common factors for all the disciplines of the sport. Some (not all) of the peeps that did well at the paarl Enduro might not fare the same when trying to be fast down something like the rhinos and conties or the harsher stuff at jonkers (Paarl DH segment times show this the best). They all require you to be fit and well equipped on your bike but demand different sets of skills to be fast through it right? This was my point. Enduro being the middleground between the two main disciplines and asking for a share of both skillsets so people having opinions about something being too "XC" is not that far fetched when it demands alot more of one than the other. Regardless of all the above , as said, will still show, ride and support regardless of the struggle. This is the main reason for the flare up here. Keybord warriors with nothing to actually contribute to a discussion or debate maturely besides ignorant statements based on nothing. If your not going to walk up to groups of people irl and say the same things then dont bash it away on a keyboard. And this. There were people, including yourself, that finished the entire even relatively quickly. I crossed the line with what was left of our group stone....last.... due to an admittable lack of fitness compared (Barely managed as it was said). However still landed mid pack on the results and ahead of op.. so what does that say.. it says the same advice that you are giving out about the fitness aspect but for the technical aspect EXCEPT no is coming here to tell you that it taught you that you suck at the technical descents and should use it to be better next time. As you said, its the same challenge for everyone at the end of the day which is the absolute truth. Im sure the different events will challenge different riders in different ways. This doesnt mean that people cant have an opinion or wish for abit more rough and they dont need to be bashed for that opinion either. Thinking their opinion is kek or that they are moaning and must be better because it catered to your strengths more than theirs is whats NOT lekker. Im sure many people would also NOT have a good time if the course was to gnar for most of them and either crashed out or ended up walking most of it? Then less would enter, which if im not mistaken is one of the reasons it is the way it is now and as @Jewbacca said was not so sustainable.
  7. admittedly am/was quite flared up. I can have a mature conversation and even debate till blue in the face but i dont see the need for the attitude of if you dont like it move on or taking shots at people (Or groups of people) or making statements about **** thats not even happening such as sucking the joy, self righteuosness ect ect. Thats the actual whining and takes it to an unecessary place. No i have not been around the scene for 10 years, im fairly new it has gripped my by the throat and i live and breathe on my bike now. I DID reach out when the Jonkers Enduro was announced and offered to get involved and help where possible. I was thanked and asked how. I said in whatever way i can including being able to source some peeps willing to perform the tasks you mentioned above..I recieved no reply to this day... I 100% support what they are trying to do and im willing to get involved in any way possible, that doesnt mean i have to agree with the choice of trails or trying to make it flat enough for everyone to ride. again Jonkers was absolutely awesome and the trails played a huge part in that. Im not some amazing rider who wants the ultimate gnar but i mean cmon... +-6km steep climb to ride the wall trail..... never....again..... Lite tickets were "Sold Out" for paarl so the new guys with us bought full tickets at full price to just ride the first 2 or 3 trails and then got told AFTER that they could have just registered for Lite at the venue....but sold out? I Understand that its been a hard road for the Enduros in WC and i feel for it too and im more than willing to give what i can to help it along. So no your not talking to one of the peeps you depicted above but im also not just complacent Even though i am dissapointed in trail choice and not keen for paarl once again. I will most likely still rock up, ride and support. but that doesnt mean i cant have an opinion about it nor do i need to be blasted for that opinion
  8. 100% in agreeance The moaning is toxic.. so then why moan and go on about **** that hasnt even happened? People sucking joy and being self righteous... where exactly? Super hipocritical bikehub as usual. People came here and had opinions, dare someone have a different opinion and think the trail is not worth it and all of a sudden its THEM that are selrighteous toxic individuals who think their discipline is best. classic "The same 7 names top every leaderboard, regardless of gnar" Okay... and so why the statement.. something to look up to if anything, good on them saying people whinge just because they dont agree with your view or the general consensus IS TOXIC Obvs you dont progress at the race but your not gonna go practice B-Spot to race at Jonkers now are you.... Personally i was looking forward to this years season and looking forward to the gnar yes. Jonkers set a bar for me. So you can imagine my dissapointment with Paarl. And im not super keen on driving all the way out there spending petrol money to practice timid trails, i personally prefer something abit more rough. Thats my opinion that i am allowed to have just like you can have yours.. except im not brandishing arrogant ill statements At the end of the day it means nothing, the event will be whatever it will be regardless of your or my opinion on this thread. But if you wana blast people or make statements then expect the exact same back is all "Its always have fun and be lekker" until someone doesnt agree.......
  9. and so... Because there is always someone that will do better the latter should not want more or try harder or take it seriously? Who sucked the joy out of what exactly? hubbers love to go on abiout the toxicity on trails and Enduro Bro culture and on and on yet i have ONLY seen hubbers being toxic Some people find joy is just having a good time and thats all good Some people want abit more, thats fine too. Some people want to try hard, good on them. Has nothing to do with self righteousness.
  10. I mean you posted "But if i hear the phrase ‘not enough gnar’ or XC event again i’m going to puke. Jebus…grow some like lungs ffs. If they chose Banhoek nobody would have said ‘not enough gnar’….even though there is fokkolol there too, but its more bike-parky so thats fine?" So clearly theres enough time are care for the opinions for you to want to make your own about them..... Its far from about being "cool" its about wanting to progress and test yourself .. theres nothing wrong with that... thats called being passionate. All the talk about just having fun, thats fine and you do you, no one can change that but wanting to be compettitive and progressive is not always JUST FUN I mean this is a compettitive platform right? so its fine to have a non chalant approach and just do it for shts and kicks but super audastic to be telling peeps that actually want to try take it abit more seriously to just move on Who the fark cares? people who want to take it seriously.. again its a compettitive platform But then thats also bikehub.... Too much talk about "self righteuousness" and "Endurobro Toxicity" and "How people think their chosen discipline is the best" Yet.. No one is actually doing that... its just pointless moaning
  11. same can be said about the guys that are just super fitness orientated and happy with grinding the tamer trails... should try XC.. But aint none of those guys on here taking shots now are there...
  12. "If they chose Banhoek nobody would have said ‘not enough gnar’….even though there is fokkolol there too, but its more bike-parky so thats fine?" I think its EXACTLY that. The trails there are atleast worth it. features, jumps, drops, scenery, compact. The jonkers Enduro Event was amazing, look at the turnout, look at the crowd that rocked up, the general atmosphere screamed excitement and fun, A+ trails and stoke levels were at an all time high. Even got to see our local heroes in action. Compare to the last event at paarl.... not exactly the same crowd and not the same vibe. They called it beginner friendly... there were peeps here on the hub saying "It was to attract beginners and thats exactly what it did"...lol .... we had ACTUAL beginners with us and they hated it. Too much grind for too little reward with lots of people dropping out and not completing. (DH was the exception and highlight) Its not just supposed to be about having a stuk pair of lungs. The type of trail will motivate the push to finish and motivate a good amount of training a preparation. I dont have anything again XC riders or Gravel riders or any riders for that matter but its not what i enjoy which is why there are those distinctive groups that enjoy different types of riding. Blurring the lines and making everything beginner friendly makes no sense. Sure i still wana be challenged fitness wise but more importantly i wana ride some exhilirating trails. For those that enjoy the fitness and the grind more and find accomplishment in it, power to you and each to their own. But give us good ol chunky descents with some nice big sends! for those that are not comforatble there are b lines? and instead of growing moerse lungs we can have good lungs and progressive riding
  13. Hi All! Looking for some advice or if anyone knows about some hidden gems! Would like to set off for abit of a MTB getaway this festive season for 2-3 days. Ive been through the plethora of options available online however not quite what im looking for. trying to find something with either a camping ground or has accomodation that is nearby the trail heads or even requires you to bike to the camp ground but NOT 100km or gravel road or 40km of flat single track😅 Looking for something that is adventurous with red to black level tech trails. Im not sure if anyone know about any such places or has any experiences . Something like a 2-3hour radius from Cape town or even abit further as long as its worth it. Even if there is maybe an amazing bike park out there somewhere with a good trail network. Something similar to the Jonkerhoek level of riding and landscape would be awesome Hoping to get some options to look into. Cheers!
  14. Chain guide from TVerse ISCG05 ZEN PLA + Been running it for a few months now. exposed to all elements and a ton of water when washing. No sign of degradation yet
  15. Well then yes, thats exactly what needs to happen, photos, vids whatever is necessary. They need to be found and penalised in some way. a real world consequence that doesnt involve the people not involved. No one here is gonna support people purposefully destroying trails. In my opinion it would be a very small minority doing this. But the way things are handled is not constructive at all. What has it achieved besides this thread , a bunch of peeps kicking the bus and possibly worse when someone takes it literally, gets on an authority high and ends up in a scuff out on the trails. As for someone telling you to mind your own business when you are trying to uphold the rules, especially if they are riding a trail that is closed or they do not have permission to access then that sounds like a shitty apple that needs to be delt with in some way like being banned
