  1. Havent entered yet... Havent trained at all for this... on the verge to buy entry to complete my 5th Solo The 36One is calling!!!
  2. I'm so so jealous, this year was our first one with the goal of to enjoy it and finish each day, especially after all the teams that were out by day 3 (it's not something we all get to do every year so make the most of it) I'm already having serious issues of not doing it again next year, to all those that got in, go and enjoy it, it's a REALLY AWESOME experience. (So if anyone is looking for a partner and want to do it with the goal of to finish this race, perhaps look this side, I'm a really patient guy, passionate rider with a big love for the sport and for me to help someone with whatever means of motivation or what else is a even greater reward for me)
  3. You only get 1 medal per year as far as I know, so if you do week 1 and week 2 it wont count as 2 seperate events to get the 5x times shield. You basically have to do it 5years.
  4. Not my kind of bike, at least not now. Took it for a spin yesterday when our LBS just received them and asked me if I want to try it and man its a "fun" toy to have with loads of power.
  5. I will take the other entry if its still available!
  6. What a awesome event, it was tough/windy/cold and I thought the organizer had a sick sense of humor closer to the end when I realized that there was the whole time 10km's more since the first distance markers started showing (but hey, its some free km's at the end of the day) I felt sorry for some of the guys going of Swartberg Pass pushing their bikes and some of them screaming from the top of their lungs F&^%# But I'm sure they were all happy to get that medal in the end, I will definitely be back and hopefully on a Gravel Bike, they were just flying past me on the tar downhill sections on my FS MTB. I'm also sure this event will still get a lot bigger.
  7. ahhhhh, was keeping my eyes pinned on this one. Well done Guy & Patrick, hope you guys have a awesome Lesotho Sky.
  8. Just another bump to swap a 2016 Cape Epic Jacket (Large) for a Medium, anyone? (THANKS GUYS, I HAVE BEEN SORTED OUT)
  9. Yeah guys, this is one awesome race, my 2nd one in the bag and yip I will be back. Last year I said never again, the following week I bought my entry again... This year however my approach was totally different, I decided to help a friend of mine who's wish it was to finish the 36One, I made it my duty to assist and motivate her all the way through this monster of a ride and try and get her in within 36hours, here it is in a nutshell: It's not always to see how hard you can push your body... if you have a passion for it, patience and are strong enough, why not use it and help someone else achieve their personal goals, assist with guidance, share what you have learned, be the mentor... the reward is so much better seeing the tears of happiness in their eyes and I'm sure it will last a longer time. When a friend said she wants to do The 36ONE MTB Challenge and asked me if I will do it with her I couldn't resist, it would make me very happy if I could help someone to achieve their goal rather than for me just to race it. It's a monumental distance to do and I would make it my duty to assist in making sure that she gets over the finish line by motivating, pushing or by whatever means, doesn't matter what time it would be but finish we would finish within that 36hours. Afterwards she had one more goal... to beat her husbands time (with who I did it the previous year) At times when she just wanted to walk a bit on the big uphills, I went down again to go fetch her bike, just to make it a little bit easier or I jumped in and helped some others up Rooiberg Pass, getting some weird looks and words of "ahhh what are you doing" when I go past them going down again to accompany others thats struggling or telling them "get on the bike Im going to push you" Nothing is quite as satisfying as seeing the smiles on their faces or their friends telling you "thank you for helping" Im proud to say that she didn't just finished it (through all the sweat and tears) but she beat her husbands time by just over an hour. With the extreme distance and amount of climbing this race has to offer one can quickly see why its probably the easiest race to drop out of and quite and explains why there is so many people that don't finish it. Thank you Dryland Event Management yet again for another awesome Extreme Endurance Challenge, really for volunteers and crew to be up for so long waiting at waterpoints for everyone still with a smile is awesome. Thank you to my wife and friends of ours for the great support and to the rest of the crew that came through to checkpoints to come and support. Going over the finish line was awesome with the MC making us feel like a million dollars in the way he congratulated us. I love ‪#‎TheUltimateRace‬, 361km's in one go with almost 6000m of climbing this is extreme endurance.
  10. Hehe, not only is Max Menzies a legend, its his 2nd Epic that he has finished on a singlespeed, he has done most stage races in South Africa on that Singlespeed, awesome guy. Gave him a small push coming down Wellington Pass on the Epic as he ran out of gears, he was just all smiles. On another note, it was the first time I saw the rope move where one partner pulled the other one, up Bain's kloof
  11. Would be great to know, I cycled 80km on Friday, 75km on Monday, 40km last night and I'm feeling great, getting ready for 36One in 3 weeks time, will be resting next 2 weeks due to not being home though
  12. Brand new Drivetrain before Epic, broke chain 20km's before finish and fixed it up with spare link, my only real mechanical.
  13. Might be the shortest but you failed to mention it was the most climbing per km and a lot more technical than before as this was the biggest issue people had regarding the previous routes, hence all the dehydration that took part as people had to work for every km and didn't had a lot of open district roads with free km's to work with. Oh I forgot, you didn't get a entry to do it, so you won't know, hence why I don't get it why you give such half comments. Like the others said, if you don't have the money to participate don't come and moan here, create your own route make it affordable for everyone and do your own thing. I find it fascinating how people these days like to sit behind their keyboards and complain about everything just to have it their way. I take my hat off to Kevin Vermaak for doing what he did, making his money and that he can continue to increase the fee and demand is most definitely still there to do it with record sales.
