    Q rings

I have had them on my mtb now for a month or so and just completed the sabie experience with them. I would not say they made me madly faster or more agile up the hills, but I did feel more efficient on the undulating terrain and my knee pain was almost non existant post ride.....which is why I bought them. It is too early for me to swear by them, but if it is any indication, I have just ordered a set for my road bike!
  2. my 2 cents worth. These guys are absolute plonkers and they deserve to held up on charges of assault. Not only did they gang up on the old man, (one on one is one thing but to gang up on somebody is cowardice and criminal!) but they rode in a big group taking up most of the road by all accounts, and then they waited for the guy at his office, so no heat of the moment argument there, it was planned! I have seen many big city cyclist who think they are entitled to take up the whole road, and while as cyclists we have rights to the raod these rights are being abused by MANY MANY clubs and riders, especially in JHB and Cape Town. I as a cyclist encountered many BIG groups of riders, they *** on you if you pass them and they get a fright, they *** on you if you hoot to let them know you are there and they *** on you if you sit behind them. Cyclists do not own the road, we have rights to it as does everyone else. We are bound by the same rules. I agree many motorists are aresholes and deliberatley give us sh*t, but have you ever wondered why? It is because far too many of the cyclists out there are behaving like fing idiots and getting people annoyed. We are all being painted by the same brush by the media and motorists and I for one am sick of it. I sat for 3 hours over dinner this weekend listening to members of my extended family ( all JHBers) bitching that the roads were closed for the 94.7, when theses "F'ing cyclists block up the roads every f'ing day". Did my head in. If I happen upon a large group of cyclists behaving badly I will let them know about it, as a cyclist I am entitled to! I feel we all should take these people to task and exclude them from our training rides if they continue to behave this way. It is up to the club ride leaders and seniors to instill discipline or ban people from their rides. Soon somebody else is going to be injured or killed, and the motorist will be blamed. Most of us as cyclists drive cars, how would we feel if we happened upon a group of Horse riders or runners taking up half the raod???? Cycle with your head, not your balls (this goes for the ladies too)
  3. am waiting for the site entires to open at twelve....going for 10 in a row and will then take a break! this will be my ninth.
  4. this topic really gets me fired up......I hate it when people litter, and I think it is simply that people consider that in light of the fact that there is so much litter around, what difference will their wrapper make!!! Complaincency is rife, and it is worse with the road cycling in general. Rides like 94.7 and Argus where you have thousands of volunteers cleaning up after us has spoilt us, then when people partake in smaller races, they take it for granted that someone else will clean it up. MTBers are generally a little (and I re-itterate A LITTLE) more considerate as they have in their minds that they are "in the bush", enviromentally friendly to the great outdoors etc. I do not care if some neanderthall tells me to F*&k off, I speak my mind. At the very least he will remember the "jerk" who told him not to litter, and hopefully will reconsider next time, even if it is for no other reason than to avoid some "jerk" telling him off again. I am of Irish decent and a few choice words are not beyond my vocabulary, if polite requests are met with verbal abuse, there is always retaliation!!! I am old enough and ugly enough to carry my own. I am also slow enough that if anybody wants to wait for me to get shirty they are more than welcome to. Speak your mind against littering.....the more who do, the less it will occur, just don't let somebody catch you doing it around the next corner
  5. No worries. If you head to Uniondale via Knysna (the long way) the roads are all tar so should be fine. Not sure of the best route from "up north" as I live in the eastern cape, but hopefully most road works will be done by then end of September hmmmm i think i smell the coffee, time to stop dreaming we live in an efficient society
  6. Hi Gary There is no change of route or cancellation for the Karoo to Coast. The route has very little damaged. Regards Linda Campbell Phone: 27 44 3826880 Fax: 27 44 3825718 Email: gwim@123.co.za www.gwim.net www.tellme.co.za www.gardenroute.co.za The above should be self explanatory......I am much relieved.
  7. I just signed up yesterday, and there was no mention on the site of cancellation or detour. I really hope it goes ahead, it is one of my favourite mtb marathons! Has anyone tried contacting the organizers....hint hint, nudge nudge if any organizers use this forum!!!! I will email them this morning.
  8. scares the S%$t out of me! A guy I knew a gym when I was at varsity took injectables, grew huge rapidly in comparison to the rest of us, and I must admit I was envious of his progress........he had a liver transplant 4 years ago and now weighs 65kg's and cant bench press more than a paper bag. If athletes want to use this stuff, they must have the right info for safety reasons to avoid the above happening, and there are those out there with the right information. I have no problem with people wanting to improve their performance in this way and if they are willling to pay for the service it is their business. However I do take ombridge to the claims that they are better athletes than those who are clean, they are merely better druggies. Maybe we should split the sports like bodybuilding did a decade or so ago. I think there was a Mr Natural Universe and Mr Universe running parralel!!!! Every competitor in the first had to undergo testing randomly throughout the months leading up to the contest. Clean cyclist sponsoredby reputable companies, and pill poppers sponsored by drug dealers....two effective forms of marketing. I do not even come close to competing at that level, so my concerns are not for who is getting the better of me, but what is the point in supporting a sport or aspiring to race when you know the guy who will win is the guy who can afford better drugs and clever masking agents. I know these guys are under pressure, but how many of those U10 cyclists aspiring to be Robbie Hunter, will look at Floyd and say, nah, lets play TV games instead!!!!!! Just my 2 cents worth
  9. hey guys, i bought my wife a raliegh, 3000, and for the price, it is superb value for money! My lbs reckon they could do the TEAM issue for the 25K mark, and that is phenominal value. The frame is dedaccai, same manufacturer as othe top brands, full shimano specc same as other top brands, awesome wheelset, better than many other top brands...seems to me the only difference between this lot and the bikes costing 10- 20K more are the decals, which I must admit lok a bit "busy" on the team, but that 7000C is awesome looking. Been riding trek for 10 years, both off road and on, Jst moved to Giant Anthem and am seriously looking at a spanking new 7000C from Santa To use the car analogy mentioned earlier, lets remember, although raleigh make the M-Trax, and other such bikes, available from Game et al, VW made the beetle and the Buggatti Varon, arguable the most technologically advanced supercar ever made !! to this to this
  10. Sella Italia SLR XC Kevlar....the best saddle i have ever used, have one on my road and mtb bikes, ridden it for 8 months now and can't complain. I am one of those slightly slower riders who spends more tim ein the saddle so I need extra comfort and these are beauts. Cheaper on line than in most local shops, just ordered one for my new mtb.
  11. Thanks guys, I am taking it all in. Love this part, hate not having a bike yet though.
  12. Hi there I recently unwillingly donated my trek fuel 90 with full xt and dtswiss disc rims and hydraulic hayes set up to the local development cycling fraternity, hopefully soon to be aprehended and convicted, never to enjoy the benefits of owning my pride and joy, but I digress.......i need a new bike! mine was stolen! pretty much sums it up. I am looking for a lightweight, full sus, (soft tail) mtb to play around on in the awesome single track around me as well as to carry my 90kg body 100km in any direction from the crater cruise to the karoo to coast and hopefully the 2008 cape epic! I am hooked on full sus and love hydraulic discs, and have insurance money to spend........ Suggestions would be greatly appreciated gary
